Butler Varsity Bears too much for Hume Hornets

For the boys, it was the same introductory story as the ladies side of things, just flips the roles. The Butler Bears came into the game the favorites, sitting at 13-6, on the heels of a 3 game hot streak. The Hornets flew into the contest with a 9-11 record, sitting just a few games under .500.

After some defensive pressure from the Bears led to a steal by Jake Chandler, Jake would go to the line and give the Bears a 2-0 opening lead. Morrison would strike back with a deep three to go up 3-2. The two teams would trade buckets for a while until the Bears would rattle off a 16-0 run. The Bears would take a 24-9 lead after 8 minutes.

The Bears would continue to put up points and extend their run to 25-6 forcing the Hornets to call a time-out, down 33-15 with just under 5 minutes to go until the intermission. The Hornets came out of the time-out with a fire lit underneath them, going on a quick 4 run. Chase Payne was able to break the Hume run with a 3 ball, but the Hornets would answer with a deep shot of his own. The Bears went into the locker room with a 40-30 lead.

In the first half, it was the Beriah Morrison and Carter Trumbore show as the two were trading baskets. Morrison had 18 at the break on 3/6 from deep while Carter answered with 22, going 4/7 range.

Out of the locker room, Bryson Morrison (who sat most of the 1st half with foul trouble) converted and-one to shrink the Bears led to 7. Butler would answer with a quick 7-0 run before Morrison would hit yet another 3 with a hand in his face. The Bears would grow their margin with a 6-0 run, stretching the lead to 53-36. The Bears were atop the Hornets 58-41 after 3 rounds.

In the fourth and final period, Hume would try and spark a comeback with a 5-1 run to open the period. But it was too little, too late, as the Bears were able to secure a 64-53 victory.

It was a great team win for Butler as they had a plethora of Bears filling up the stat sheet. Trumbore led all scoring with 31pts and 6rebs. Davidson recorded another double-double with 17pts, 14rebs, and a steal and a block, Chandler had 7pts, 7rebs, and 3 steals, while Mallatt had 4pts, 4stls. Both Trumbore and Davidson both shot over 50 percent from the floor here on senior night.

Hume was led by Beriah Morrison with 24.
