Butler Bears Baseball season ends last night in the second round of districts

The Butler Bears Baseball Team fell to Lone Jack  Mules 3-2 on Monday evening on the final play of the game. 

The game was tied at two in the bottom of the seventh when Brett Nicholson doubled, scoring one run. Both teams were strong on the bump. 

Lone Jack  pitchers struck out 14, while Butler sat down 11. The Mules were the first to get on the board in the first when Landen Danuser singled, scoring one run. Sophomore Breydan Heckadon grounded out, which helped the Bears tie the game at one in the top of the sixth.

Lone Jack took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Ethan Rogers scored after tagging up, to give The Mules the edge, 2-1. 

Senior Cameron Anderson singled, which helped Butler tie the game at two in the top of the seventh. Eli Cox took the loss for the Bears. The reliever went one and one-third innings, surrendering one run on one hit, striking out one and walking one. 

Senior Maddox Fennewald started on the hill for Butler. He gave up four hits and two runs over five and one-third innings, striking out 10 and walking four. Anderson and Heckadon each drove in one run for Butler Varsity Bears. 

Sophomore Brandon Hammett led Butler with two hits. In four at bats. the Bears were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Jake Chandler had the most chances in the field with 11.

The Bears will finish the 2024 season with a record of 14-12. We would like to thank the seniors Maddox, Logan, Jude and Cameron for all their years of dedication and leadership to the Butler High School Baseball team.
