Deputy injured after police pursuit ends in Miami County Kansas

In the late evening of 5/25/2024, the Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a pursuit that was entering Miami County. Linn County Sheriff’s Office advised they were in pursuit of a vehicle with a driver with an active warrant.

Miami County deputies joined the pursuit that traveled mostly into the south part of Miami County and north part of Linn County. Miami County Deputies attempted to use a tire deflation device but were unsuccessful.

The vehicle continued to flee and a Miami County Deputy attempted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention technique but the fleeing vehicle made a maneuver, got behind the patrol car crashing into the rear then crashed into the side of the patrol car before getting hung up on the push bumper.

The suspect vehicle became free and Deputies successfully deployed a tire deflation device that successfully deflated at least two tires. The suspect vehicle came to a stop.

The driver was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Miami County Jail with multiple misdemeanor and felony charges. A Miami County Deputy was injured in the pursuit and was taken to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This event continues to be investigated by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
