Sometime during the pursuit the driver identified as, Jessie R. Miller, 26 began throwing large bags on white crystal substance, commonly known as methamphetamines, from the vehicle. Vernon County Deputies chased him north onto A and V Highway reaching speeds of 90 mph.
A Bates County Deputy successfully utilized Spike strips just south of 52 Hwy striking the two passenger side tires. MSHP also had spike strips deployed at 52 Hwy and V Hwy. Miller attempted to continue to flee on two flat tires until a second Bates County Deputy was able to successfully deploy the Grappler on V Hwy before reaching 52 Hwy.
Miller was taken into custody by deputies and K9 Falco. Upon a search of his person a bag of white crystal substance and paraphernalia was located. The subject admitted that is was methamphetamines' but asked the deputy to test it for him to confirm.
The vehicle was unregistered and possessed a fictitious temporary license plate.
Miller was believed to be under the influence of drugs, does not have a valid license and has multiple warrants for failure to appear, traffic violations, and parole violation. Miller was convicted of and on probation for aggravated 2nd degree assault against a police officer and burglary 2nd. Miller’s current No Bond warrant is for Aggravated assault on a Police Officer.
Miller was transported to the Bates County Jail where he was booked in for his No Bond Warrant. Additional charges are being submitted to the Prosecutor related to this incident.
Sheriff Anderson says, “Tonight we worked with the MSHP and Vernon County Sheriff’s Office to take a career criminal drug dealer off the streets. That was the Protect portion of to Protect and Serve. Now we will oblige Millers request and most definitely test and confirm to the courts that the crystal substance that he believes to be Methamphetamines is in fact Methamphetamines. That is the serve portion. Again, spike strips and the Grappler are invaluable tools that we have to help us perform our jobs on behalf of Bates County citizens”.
