Fatality accident in Miami County Kansas

On June 21, 2024 at 11:19 am the Miami County Sheriff's Office Communications Division received a 911 phone call about an injury crash on US 169 Highway between Crescent Hill

Road and Bethel Church Road in rural Miami County. Osawatomie Police Department, at the request of the Sheriff's Office responded to the call as they were the closest available unit. When they arrived they found two vehicles with extensive damage to them. Officers quickly began life saving measures on the occupants. 

The preliminary investigation has found that a red 2013 Mazda 3 driven by Natalie Dawn Lober O'Leary, 36, Wichita, KS was northbound on US 169 Highway. A gray 2016 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Patty S. Landess, 78 and her passenger, Richard C. Landess, 83, both of Rantoul, Kansas were southbound on US 169 Highway. 

The red Mazda attempted to pass a vehicle and a tractor trailer and struck the gray Equinox head on. Ms. Lober O'Leary was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Mr. And Mrs. Landess were transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. We extend our sincere condolences to Ms. Lober O'Leary's family.
