Obituary - Phyllis Jean Stangl

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Phyllis Jean Stangl, 69, on Monday, June 24, 2024, at home, surrounded by loved ones after a three-month battle with ovarian and peritoneal cancer.

Phyllis was born in Kansas City, MO, on July 24, 1954, to Anna Lou and Joseph Earl Jackson. She graduated from Raytown South High School in 1973 and attended the Independence School of Cosmetology, becoming a hair stylist at her mother’s salon. It was there she met the love of her life, Ricky Lee Stangl, and married him on July 3, 1980. They built a beautiful life together, blessed with four wonderful children and six grandchildren. They were married for 32 years.

Her proudest accomplishment was being a loving, devoted homemaker who always put others before herself. Later in life, when her children were older, she ran a successful business, Rick’s Auto Body Shop, for many years. Phyllis was strong in her faith and loved the Lord. She studied healing food nutrition for most of her life. Her favorite place to be was in the kitchen, preparing fresh, healthy food for her loved ones, sourced from her parents' or brother’s garden. She loved fresh flowers and raising monarch butterflies. She never met a stranger, was an amazing foosball player, and enjoyed camping and floating down the river. She cherished time spent at the Lake of the Ozarks with her sister and family.

"Philly Jean the Queen" will be deeply missed for her biblical advice and wisdom, powerful and loving prayers, quick wit, infectious laugh, warm hugs, beautiful smile, baby blue eyes, and excitement to share a good recipe. She had a unique gift for connecting with people and was an incredible inspiration to every life she touched.

Phyllis leaves behind four children to cherish her loving memory: her son Shawn Stangl (Amy), daughter Sarah Mullin (John), daughter Rebecca Stangl, and son Ricky Stangl II. She is also survived by her brother Rick Jackson (Phyllis), sister Cynthia, and grandchildren Madison, Shaylee, Molly, Mia, Maverick, and Miles. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Earl Jackson and Anna Lou Jackson, her brother Joe Jackson, brother-in-law Chris Sharp, sister in laws Jan Jackson and Patricia Jackson.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mom’s nurse, Michelle, and her PCT, Julie, for their dedication in making sure Mom was as comfortable as possible. The love and care you both gave her was a blessing, and we are forever thankful for you. We also thank Advanced Home Health and Hospice of Kansas City for their remarkable care.

**Mom’s life verse:**

*We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.*

Romans 8:28
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
