Back in May, Mid America Live and the News-Shopper ran a story regarding a local family who stated that their now deceased father, Eugene Miller was the victim of a fraudulent sale of his 38 acres in rural Bates county, including a home in Butler, to Homestead Equities, LLC. Prior to his death Miller strongly contended that he never agreed to sell the property to anyone. Unfortunately he fell ill shortly after the transaction which took place late last year delaying any legal or investigative action. Our story helped prompt an investigation by the Department of Health and Senior Services who says the case is now closed and no further action will be taken on their part, citing that Miller is no longer alive to make a statement regarding the matter.
The DHSS representative said at this point the only recourse for the family would be through civil court action.
