Sylvia Lavon Brooks of Nixa passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. She was born in Augusta, Kansas to Benjamin and Doris (Ruggles) Schlegal.
Sylvia will be remembered for her unwavering kindness that she extended to all those around her. Her deep faith in God was evident in the compassion she showed to others. Known for her passionate and adventurous spirit, Sylvia embraced life wholeheartedly.
Dedicated and skilled in her work, Sylvia's vibrant personality shone through in all her endeavors, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and customers. Her professional journey began as a waitress at B and B in Olathe, Kansas after graduating from high school. She cherished the interactions with her customers, particularly those who served in the military. Sylvia held a special bond with her boss, who instilled in her a strong work ethic that she carried throughout her career.
Transitioning into accounting and office management, Sylvia found fulfillment working for KCFX radio in Overland Park, Kansas. There, she had the privilege of meeting various music and sports personalities, with a particular fondness for encounters with Chiefs and Royals figures.
Venturing further afield to Houston, Texas to work at Panaco Oil Company, Sylvia embraced the new experiences that came her way. Whether navigating the loop around Houston or exploring Galveston's shores, she approached each adventure with enthusiasm.
Throughout her health challenges, Sylvia's compassionate heart continued to shine brightly as she touched the lives of all those who cared for her.
Sylvia is survived by her son Rick Brooks; daughter-in-law Rhonda Sherman; sister Treva Shoemaker; and grandson Josh Hessling. She is preceded in death by her parents; son Thomas Benjamin Brooks; and daughter-in-law Christine Brooks
Cremation with a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Service details will be published once that information becomes available.
