Obituary - Joseph (Gabe) McMannis

Joseph (Gabe) McMannis was born at Nevada Memorial Hospital in Nevada, MO. Gabe passed away at Cedar County Memorial Hospital due to a short illness that led to a severe infection.

Gabe attended elementary, middle and a couple years of high school at El Dorado Springs R-II School and was able to complete his GED later in life.

He enjoyed learning but the traditional school setting
was not his favorite. Gabe worked at many different occupations
throughout his life, from commercial painting, restaurant worker and odd jobs to manufacturing playground equipment. He always kept busy doing something.

Gabe is proceeded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his brother Keith Jerome McMannis, and his mother Lourie Kay Bullington (Sprinkle).

He is survived by the love of his life, Madison Nicole Collins and their daughter, Scarlett Irene McMannis of the home in El Dorado Springs. Also by his son, Gabrielle Dylan Vorhies (Little Gabe) of Memphis, Tenn., daughters Aly Annamarie McLaurin of El Dorado Springs, MO., Mia Rose McMannis of El Dorado Springs, and Amiah Michelle McMannis of Nevada, MO. His father, Donald Wayne McMannis of Springfield, MO., brother Travis Leon Smith (Tammy), Sister Amanda Gale Holman (Monti). Many aunts, uncles, niece’s, nephews, cousins and numerous life-long friends.

Gabe was always doing something crafty, drawing making coffee tables, painting. He also loved some good rock-n-roll and Metallica was his favorite! He loved all his children, family and friends a great deal and they were all very important to him. He knew how short life could be so he really tried to enjoy it and surround himself with
those he loved.

Gabe believed in God and wanted those around him to know the Lord and the love he gives. Gabe was always passing on the word of God to anybody that would listen because he felt so deeply about his faith. Gabe really loved to cook and if he cooked something he was extra proud of he’d take a plate to anybody who’d try it so he could enjoy their reaction. Chef Boyargabe!

A couple memories from his son: Little Gabe wanted us to know that his dad was a great person. Even though they didn’t get as much time together as they would have liked, he was still a great dad. He remembers Big Gabe taking him Cowan Bridge down on the Sac River and teaching him how to swim by just throwing him in! He said he was scared but he learned quick! He said his mom was mad but she knew his dad would never hurt him. Another time, when Little Gabe was 5 or 6, his dad and Emily took him to the Pig Race at the El Dorado Springs annual picnic. Little Gabe said, “ I got 4th place but dad acted like I got 1st and he was so happy. I loved my dad so much. I wish he could have stayed with with us longer. He gave me 4 beautiful sisters and I’m very thankful for each of them.”

Gabe was a sweet and ornery kid and could be very stubborn qualities he kept all throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by all of us who love him but we know with his faith in God, he is at peace and suffers no more.

The family request memorial contributions to Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
