Update: Shooting leaves one dead in rural Butler

On September 12th around 8:45 pm deputies were advised of a shooting that just occurred at a property on North East County Road 2504 just outside Butler City limits.

On arrival, deputies confronted the subject of the shooting and took him into custody. The deputies then found the victim unresponsive located in the front seat of a pickup truck in the drive way. The deputies performed CPR on the victim until EMS arrived on scene and declared the subject deceased.

All three people who remained at the scene were taken into custody for questioning. One subject fled the scene and was located in Butler by the Butler Police Department.

Detectives spent the night processing the scene and interviewing the witnesses. Coroner Greg Mullinax took custody of victim’s body for an autopsy.

On 9/13/2024 the Bates County prosecutor charged Jeffrey Daniel Ross Jr of Butler with 1st degree homicide and armed criminal action. Bond has been set at $1,000,000 cash only by the Honorable Judge Highley.
