Graveside services will follow, with military honors, at 1:30 pm Friday, November 8, 2024 in Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas. Alvina Maye Harrison-Wells was born January 1, 1931 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Pearl and Helen Baize Harrison. Alvina grew up in Butler, Missouri and graduated from Butler High School. She then attended the General Hospital School of Nursing and received he BSN from the Missouri University. Following graduation, she continued her education at Pepperdine University where she later earned her Master’s Degree.
Alvina proudly served her country in the US Navy, retiring in 1982 as Captain Alvina Harrison-Wells after 20 years of service.
She was later married to James Wells in Butler, Missouri and became a member of the family. Alvina was a beloved wife, step-mother and “MaMaw”. She was a faithful church goer, and a member of the Butler Church of the Nazarene, where she was very active. Alvina was never one to “sit still”. She loved her community and wanted to help whenever she could. Alvina also had a passion for travel. She did a lot of missionary work over years, touching the lives of those locally and beyond. She was a person full of knowledge and experience. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be forever missed.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Raymond Harrison, Vanetta Robey, Richard Harrison, Beulah Myers, and Earl Harrison, along with a step-daughter Jolene Burch. She is survived by her step-children, Jeff Wells, Jon Wells, Jennifer Hardinger, and Gay Keene. Along with many step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
