Bates county commission signs ordinance for senior tax credt

From Bates County Clerk, Jami Page

On January 29, 2025 the Bates County Commission signed an ordinance implementing the Senior Tax Credit. The tax credit is for Bates County citizens who are 62 years of age or older when the credit is applied for. Citizens must apply for the tax credit annually with the Bates County Clerk’s Office between the first Monday in February and the last Monday in April. Applicants must submit a copy of their deed that shows them as the legal owner of the property, photo identification and proof of residency. The application is also required to be notarized. The Applicant’s primary residence must be in Bates County, Missouri.

The tax credit only applies to your residence, your home. It does not include any outbuildings or acreage. The applicant must not owe any delinquent taxes. Due to the Hancock Amendment the tax credit can only be applied to the Bates County tax levy. Currently the Bates County tax levy is $0.2677 per $100 of assessed valuation. All other tax levies are excluded from the credit. The tax credit does not give any money back to the applicant. It only freezes the valuation of your residence at the time you apply.

To pick up an application please come by the Bates County Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday during normal business hours. If you would like the application emailed to you please email the County Clerk at clerk@batescountymo.gov.
