The Adrian Lady Blackhawks Softball team began their week battling the Versailles Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 6 run lead as they played small ball in the top of the first, getting 3 RBI singles before collecting an RBI Double and then an sacrifice grounder that went down as an RBI as well.
The Blackhawks were able to get some of that back in the bottom of the first as they scored 3 runs of their own off of a pair of RBI Singles of their own (Newkirk & Nelson) and a sacrifice ground out of their own as well (Talley).
Over the next 2 innings, the Blackhawks defense stymied the Tigers, holding them to 0. With the defensive intensity ramped up in the 2nd and 3rd, the Blackhawks bats were able to plate 3 runs in each the 2nd and 3rd, to claim a 9-6 upper hand heading into the 4th.
After being held silent in two straight innings, Versailles answered back in a big way, having theirselves yet another 6 run inning in the top of 4, while Adrian record anther 3 runs in the bottom of 4.
The game would continue to go back and forth, and heading into the 7th and final the Lady Blackhawks found themselves trailing 14-12. Adrian would rally to score the needed 3 runs to claim a 15-14 victory.
Berkleigh Pierce, Harlee Newkirk and Lizzie Clifton each recored an inside the park homer in the contest. There was a plethora of Blackhawks that recorded multiple hits in the game as Adrian recorded a totally of 22 hits in the matchup.
Adrian’s offensive explosion continued as they travelled to Midway on Thursday. Adrian struck first as they lead 2-1 after the first. Midway did rally in the 3rd, scoring 4 to take a 5-3 advantage. But the Lady Blackhawks bats got hot once again as they scored 16 runs in the final 3 innings to claim a 19-6 victory.
Adrian racked up 23 hits in the contest, led by Chloe Nelson who went a perfect 4 of 4 from the dish, while recording 2 RBIs. Mizell and Clifton each recorded 4 RBIs in the contest.
