Tailgate TV: Bears Baseball Secures First Win


The Butler Bears were still searching for their first W of the season as they loaded the buses and traveled to Sherwood to face off against the 2-9 Marksmen on Tuesday.

The Bears Bats were hot early as Butler jumped out to a large 6-0 lead in the first inning, kicked off by an 2 RBI double off the bat of Bryson Kash who drove a ball to center to field to score Hammett and Wilson. Shortly after, Eli Cox would get an RBI double himself that would score Kash. The extra base hits just kept coming for the Bears, as Rhett Newsome would also tally an RBI double in the inning, scoring Jackson.

The Bears however did not content after the 6 run inning, they were able to ad 1 more run in the 2nd, 5 more in the 3rd, and then 3 more in the 4th and 5th. The Bears would easily dispose of the Marksmen with a final of 15-1.

The Bears recorded 15 runs on 14 hits, showing the ability to not only provide solid contact, but also practicing some good plate discipline as they sent 8 to base on balls.

Offensively, the Bears were led by Eli Cox who went 4 of 5 on the night, with 2 RBIs and 2 runs. The Bears saw 7 batters record at least one hit in the contest, and 8 different Bears recorded an RBI.

On the mound, Cox pitched all 5 innings for Butler and gave up just one hit, and one run while striking out 5 Marksmen.
