Reminder to students: Cell phone ban in effect

Missouri has enacted a statewide ban on cell phone use during the school day in all public and charter schools, effective July 1, 2025. This ban, part of Senate Bill 68, prohibits students from using or displaying cell phones during instructional time, meal times, and between classes. While districts must create policies to enforce the ban, they have flexibility in how they manage student cell phones, including whether they are kept on students or stored in designated areas.

The ban applies to all public and charter schools in Missouri, from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The ban is in effect from the beginning of the school day until the end of the school day, including during lunch and passing periods.

The law allows for exceptions for medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other circumstances deemed appropriate by the district.
