Butler Historic Preservation Commission Historical Home Spotlight


House at 414 W Pine
This historic craftsman-style house was built c. 1925 with Mrs. Josephine Coleman as the first known owner. R. P. and Betty Peak lived here in 1932. In 1937, the house was inhabited by Mr. and Mrs. Arch Downing, an insurance agent, before he began his officer training for WWII. The next residents were Dr. and Mrs. John Gordon Stephens and their son, Mel Stephens. In 1945, Melvin Ingram purchased the house from Dr. Stephens. In 1947, Florence Norfleet bought the house. In 1957, the occupants were the Ralph and Irene Smading family. Mr. Smading operated Ralph’s Garage on Walnut Street. Carl and Karen Case Nameth purchased the home in the early 1970s. Karl and Tiffany Nameth Blaser purchased the house in 2006. Tiffany Blaser’s daughter, Jessika, and husband Ty Johnson purchased the home in 2024. The Johnsons have updated the house while maintaining its historic Craftsman features.
