The Regular meeting of the Harmony Mission Chapter MSSDAR was called to order by Regent Dawn Steuck at 1:30pm at the Butler Public Library. There were 9 members and 4 guests present.
The Opening Ritual was led by Regent Dawn Steuck and assisted by Chaplain Sharon Rosendahl.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by guest Karen Armstrong.
The American’s Creed was led by guest Tammy Stock.
The Pledge to the State of Missouri was led by guest Beth Doody.
The President General’s Message was read by guest Paula Young.
The National Defense Report was read by Registrar Cindi Mayer “Remembering September 11: A Personal Story.”
Officer Reports:
The Minutes of the regular meeting of June 8,2026 and the Special Planning meeting of July 13,2026 were read by Recording Secretary Cindi Mayer and were approved as read.
Treasurer Linda Barr reported the Chapter Balance of $1117.51 and a Scholarship Balance of $40667.10. That is an increase of $318.41. She also paid State registration of $20.00 for 2 years. She has also told Harmony Mission’s tax reports have been filed. She also told of the balance in the “Pickle Jar” was $598.22.
Registrar Cindi Mayer told of 2 new transferred members. Pat Taylor and Susan Stout Peirce. Yay!!!
Historian Julie McKinley reported on the “Grave Diggers 0f the Civil War”. Before the Civil War there were no procedures to deal with the dead on the battlefield. Because of increase of casualties due to battle and disease and infection among soldiers and civilians "gravediggers" were employed by both Union and Confederates. The task of digging graves fell upon which side controlled the field at the end of battle.
Committee Reports:
American Heritage Chairman Cindi Mayer told of traditional Recipes. Thomas Jefferson’s Ice Cream recipe was given to members.
American History Chairman Julie McKinley told of the battle at Kip’s Bay on September 15, 1776. The Connecticut Militia of 500 erected a crude breastwork on the American Line at Kip's Bay. They were over run by 4000 British and Hessian soldiers.
American Indian Chairman Dawn Steuck reported on Tommy Orange born in 1982 who is a Cheyenne and Arapahoe Lineage in Oklahoma. He was instrumental in the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is an award winning Creative Writer promoting Native writing and writers.
Commemorative Events Chairman Sharon Rosendahl reminded us of 9/11 “We Must Never Forget!”
Conservation Chairman Sharon Rosendahl told of the different Fall Colors and when they show up.
Constitution Chairman Marsha Brelsford was unable to be here so new member Pat Taylor told of going to schools dressed as Betsy Ross to teach children about Constitution Week.
DAR Magazine Chairman Linda Barr told of the DAR Magazine is now called Daughters Portico
DAR Museum Chairman Dawn Steuck told of DAR Museum’s “In Their Own Words” display.
Service to Veterans Chairman Lylah Linard told of Remembering the Veterans
Flag of the United States Chairman Cindi Mayer told since 1777 our Flag has changed 27 times to accommodate new states joining the Union. The current 50 star version has been used since July 4, 1960 when Hawaii became a state.
Service to America Chairman Dawn Steuck collected service hours.
Women’s Issues Chairman Linda Barr discussed transgender “women” trying to take over women’s rights and spaces.
New Business:
Regent Dawn Steuck gathered names of members who wanted to go to the Cameo Society Tea. October 17, 2026 in Booneville.
1st Motion Made: Harmony Mission to NOT pay the President General's Project. Made by: Cindi Mayer Second by: Sharon Rosendahl Motion Passed.
2nd Motion Made: Harmony Mission to send $100.00 to St. Judes in honor of Barry Barr( Linda Barr's husband). Made by: Sharon Rosendahl second by: Cindi Mayer Motion Passed
Announcements:
Bring Goodies to be presented after the meeting in October to Police Department and Fire Department. This is our service to first responders.
New Members were told of the 100th Anniversary of Harmony Mission Chapter
September 17 Constitution Day with a Proclamation at 2:30 at the Butler Court House
The next meeting of Harmony Mission Chapter DAR will be October 19th at 1:30pm at the Butler Public Library
Program:
Sadly, we were informed of the disappearance and ultimate death of our friend and author Robert C. Jones.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15pm by Regent Dawn Steuck
