Prop C passes; Now what?

As the numbers came in last night, it was consistently a YES vote nearly 3 to 1 across the board for virtually every precinct in the state. Missouri was the first state to take the health care issue to voters and it appears that Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona and possibly a few others may do the same. While a clear message has been sent to Washington, some are wondering what will happen next; there has been talk that a lawsuit may ensue, however with the upcoming November elections that simply may not happen.

Republican National Chairman Michael Steele called Missouri's rejection of the federal mandate to purchase health insurance "a significant blow to the Obama administration."

Steele called the Missouri vote "another reason why Republicans will win back the majority in November" in congressional elections. "By rejecting ObamaCare with nearly three-quarters of the vote in a critical swing state, Missouri sent a strong message to Democrats and the Obama administration that government-run health care is a gross overreach of the federal government that needs to be repealed and replaced," Steele said in a statement.

Unlike the Arizona immigration law, which generated a legal challenge last week, the Missouri proposition and several more state initiatives that could pass in November are unlikely to face court tests any time soon.

Democrats, who did little to combat Proposition C, were largely quiet about the Missouri results as the returns from Tueday's elections circulated this morning.

Butler PD set for BBQ Championship

The Butler Police Association along with Country Mart is getting ready for the 5th annual Bates County BBQ State Championship and Fall Festival with big payouts planned for participants. The 2009 event held at the Fairgrounds was deemed a huge success with 39 teams and $8,300 in payouts for the BBQ competition alone. This years amount is slated to be at least that amount with even a larger group as the word spreads around the region.

The Butler Police Association was formed with the idea to give back to the community where we all live and work.  The annual community projects the BPA supports includes the BBQ Championship.  Other fundraising projects consist of scholarships, the Shop with a Cop Program for underprivileged children, supporting children’s athletics, an automated external defibrillator for patrol cars, donations to the senior center, the purchase of a tracking and drug dog for the community and many more.

Movie in the park this weekend

This Saturday night John Wayne will be featured on the huge inflatable video screen at Frontier Village in Adrian. Plan on arriving around 8 pm with the movie starting between 8:30 and 9:00. Concessions will be provided by Little League Football players and staff. As of now there's no rain in the forecast-bring your lawn chairs and plan on a full evening of the Duke at his best!

Boil advisory for rural customers northwest of Adrian

A boil advisory has been issued for Bates County RWD 5 customers in an area located north of Crescent Hill School (northwest of Adrian) to the Cass County Line. The affected area stretches from that point to the western edge of the Bates 5 RWD service area.

Note that a boil advisory is issued for those with health issues, infants and older adults. Should a boil order been given, everyone regardless of age or health status would be required to boil water prior to using it.
