Important update regarding emergency test on TV and radio stations...

We have just been informed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that the Nationwide EAS Test scheduled for November 9 at 2 p.m. EST (1 p.m. locally) has been shortened. The audio of the test will now last 60 seconds instead of the originally planned two and a half minutes

Again, we encourage everyone not to panic as the Nov. 9th test is performed- it will be on every television and radio station across the country. Bates County Live will run another reminder on the morning of Nov. 9th as well.

Volunteers needed to complete Joplin construction before Thanksgiving

JOPLIN, Mo. – Nov. 2, 2011 – The Ten for Joplin project is in need of volunteers to complete the construction of 10 homes for tornado-impacted families before Thanksgiving.

The project is a partnership between Tulsa and Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity teams, the City of Joplin, surrounding businesses and organizations, and thousands of volunteers to rebuild Joplin.

With walls raised last Saturday, roofs complete and siding scheduled to be installed today, this fast-paced project that relies on volunteers still needs help to see it through to fruition.
