Now that we have finished up the special session, many of my colleagues and I are taking the opportunity to visit with our constituents regarding the successes and trials of both the first regular session and the first special session of the 96th General Assembly.

Soon in your local newspapers, you will receive an insert from my office. This 2011 Legislative Report is our way of getting information into your hands without the added expense of mailing them to your homes.

Optimist gun show coming in December

The Jim LaRose Memorial Gun Show is looking for serious gun dealers, ammo dealers, knife dealers, military surplus, and gun accessory enthusiasts to join the Adrian Optimist Club, as they celebrate their friend, Jim LaRose, whose passion for weapons, guns and knives have inspired all of us to rise to the occasion and protect the second amendment right to own and bear arms.

Join the Adrian Optimist as they celebrate his life and help us to remember that freedom doesn’t come without a cost. The Annual Adrian Optimist Club, Gun Show will be held December 9th,10th, and 11th at the Adrian Optimist Community Building in Adrian.

Approximately 100 tables will be available. For information contact James Binkley 816-213-7247.

Admission will be $5.00 per day, children under 10 years old will be admitted free.

Jim LaRose Memorial Gun Show hours:
Friday 5 pm to 9 pm
Saturday 8 am to 6 pm
Sunday show hours 9 am to 3 pm

Extra mass distribution this Saturday...

There will be an extra mass distribution at the Butler Community Food Pantry this Saturday from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

The pantry is located at Prospect and Ohio streets in Butler. Visit their new web site here www.batescountypantry.org

Adrian recycling center open 7 days a week

The Adrian community recycling center is located on the North side of Adrian City Hall and is open sun-up to sun-down seven days a week. The center takes cardboard, magazines and newspapers, plastics (#1 and #2—look for the triangle on the bottom of most plastic containers markedwith either a 1 or 2), aluminum and glass. To remain open the facility must accumulate at least 4,000 pounds of recycling items.

Highlights from Butler R-V school board meeting

Old Business: The board approved the placement of a turnstile so that the public could access the track. It was also discussed that there would be a “ribbon cutting” ceremony upon the completion of the project, marking the time when the community could use the facility. Lighting for night use was discussed, but this was determined to be a project for later consideration.

New Business:
a. Program Evaluations. The board heard from Sheila Smalley about the Professional Development Committee which encourages professional growth for our staff.
