Butler Optimist Gun Show coming in April

The Butler Optimist Club is looking for serious gun dealers, ammo dealers, knife dealers, military surplus and gun accessory enthusiasts who have apassion for weapons, guns and knives to participate in the Butler Optimist Gun Show April 6th and 7th. $35.00 table rental fee 2 or more tables $30.00 each. State and Federal ATF  guidelines, rules and regulations have been followed- approval has been given to allow a gun show to be held on school property (school will not be in session).

Cattle & Forage Management Meeting March 27

A Cattle and Forage Management Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 27, at the Rusty Jug Restaurant located at 1209 S. High, El Dorado Springs, MO. It will be held from 9:30 am to 2:45 pm and is sponsored by Mid-Missouri Bank of El Dorado Springs, the St. Clair Cattlemen’s Association and University of Missouri Extension.

Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. The speakers are as follows:

Hydrant flushing in Butler begins next week...

The City of Butler will be flushing hydrants in all areas South of Ohio Street starting March 14, and 15, 2012, and March 21, and 22, 2012.

Flushing hydrants is a routine maintenance activity of the Water Distribution Department and Fire Department. This work will occur mainly during the late evening and overnight hours for the convenience of our customers and will be primarily Wednesdays and Thursdays. This work should take approximately two weeks.

The residents in this area may experience some rusty water and should exercise caution when washing white fabrics. If you notice any staining of white fabrics, do not dry the material but repeat the wash cycle. If you experience stained fabrics, contact the City office at 679-4182 during normal business hours or the Butler Police Department at 679-6131 after hours and on weekends and we can provide you with bottles of stain remover.

Legislative Interns in Our Capitol Office

I am honored to have two interns serving the 31st Senatorial District in the State Capitol during this spring legislative session. The interns assist our office staff and gain real world experience by engaging in a range of legislative activities, from communications to administrative tasks.

Community Food Pantry drive through the end of March

Bates County People for People Coalition is recognizing National Nutrition Month by sponsoring a food drive during March. Non-perishable food items are being collected and will be donated to the Community Food Pantry in Butler. Collection sites include:

· Sonic of Butler
· Citizen’s Banks ( Adrian, Amsterdam, Butler & Drexel branches)
· Community First Banks of Butler
· Yoss Thriftway of Adrian
· Food Fair of Rich Hill
· Adrian Banks (Adrian & Butler branches)

People for People Coalition is a county wide effort which focus on promoting the dignity, security and pride of all people in Bates County through various activities. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 11:30 in the classroom of Bates County Health Center located at 501 N. Orange in Butler. Meetings are open and the coalition encourages anyone to attend.

Early morning fire results in total loss

Firefighters respond to two separate residential fires just hours apart

Last night at approximately 11:31 P.M., the Butler Fire Department responded to a report of an automatic detection alarm of smoke in a residence at 605 N. Gregory in Butler. On arrival it was determined that there was smoke in the 1 1/2 story, wood frame residential structure.

Upon initiating an interior attack, fire was found in the basement in a room adjacent to the stairway.

The fire was extinguished with fire damage to the area of origin and moderate to light smoke damage throughout the remainder of the residence. Adrian Fire Dept. responded under automatic mutual aid. Units cleared the scene at 1:21 A. M.

This morning at approximately 1:42 a.m., The Butler and Adrian Fire Departments responded to a report of a structure fire on CR 3003 approximately 1/4 mi. N. of Rt. H. The first unit arriving on the scene at 1:49 A.M. found a single story, wood frame residence fully involved in fire.

The fire was extinguished with the structure and contents being a total loss. The last unit left the scene at 3:30 A.M.

There were no injuries from either incident.

Show of Wheels just two weeks away...

Wheels in Butler
The 5th Annual Show of Wheels hosted by Butler Detail will be held March 18th in the parking lot north of the Butler Detail Shop. Registration begins at 10 am, with a $5.00 registration fee. Show time 10-3pm with trophies awarded at 3:30. The public will be admitted at no charge but free will donations will be appreciated.

Proceeds raised will benefit Lawson Lane Nieder, born at 27 weeks gestation (13 weeks early) who will remain in the hospital until May 15th. Parents are Brandon and Carli Nieder of Amsterdam.

Trophies will be awarded for the following classes: Rat Rod, Classic Car, Truck, Drag Car, Race Car, Motorcycle, Tractor, Muscle Car, Kids’ Choice and Best of Show. 

Food will be provided by the Black Angus Grill with live entertainment by popular local band Breakaway.
