Senior Boxes available at the Butler Community Food Pantry
The Butler Community Food Pantry has a few extra Senior Boxes left for the month of March. In order to qualify for this program you must be age 60 and up-OR be a child age 5; be a resident of Bates County, and meet income guidelines. If interested please stop by the pantry for an appplication or call 660-679-3951.

Summary of Butler R-V Regular March Meeting
New Business:
a. The board approved the consent agenda.
b. The board heard presentations from Abby Colin on PAT and Susie Tenholder on Vo-Tech.
c. The board approved the Memorandum of Understanding for the elementary to serve as a severe weather facility.
d. The board approve the Memorandum of Understanding for the district to serve as a Red Cross Shelter.
e. The board renewed their contract with OPAA food service.
f. The board reached consensus that the district could seek other schools to join in an athletic consortium for the sport of wrestling.
g. The board asked that the Butler Alumni Association come to the board with their ideas on a time capsule to be place on district grounds.
h. The board heard a report from the superintendent on interest earning for the district. The board agreed that it would be best to stay with the agreement with Community First Bank.
i. The board heard a report from all administrators on the progress made toward the Comprehensive School Improvement Program. Significant progress has been made toward the CSIP goals with the exception of those that required additional funding to achieve.
The board had received notice that Citizens Bank had introduced a School Visa Check Card that provides the school funds when transactions are made.
Closed Session:
The board approved the resignation of Ronald Dunsdon.
The board approved the hire of Sandra Debrick as a teacher in science.
The board accepted the resignation of Johnny Teeman from coaching basketball.
The board reinstated teacher Holly Rabourn.
The board approved coaching duties for the fall and winter sports for the 2012-13 school year.
The board approved the rehire of Heath Oates assistant superintendent.
The board approved the next meeting to be held on April 18th following Spring Break.
The board agreed to hire a student to assist with grounds maintenance this summer.

Altona 4-H news
The Altona 4-H gathered at Adrian Lanes on Saturday, March 10th for a bowling party. We had a nice turn out with 22 members present plus parents and younger siblings. We did not have a regular business meeting, but had a good time as a club. Our next meeting will be on April 11th at the Altona Community Hall.

Obituary - Vera Gilbert
Funeral services for Vera Ann Gilbert will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Hill, Missouri with Rev. Sarah Ross officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 16, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555). Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Contributions to Amyloidosis Foundation and Alpha-1 Foundation.
Vera Ann Gilbert, age 71 of Adrian, Missouri died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at her home. She was born October 23, 1940 to Chester Arther and Beatrice Taleta Shobe Prior in Mayville, North Dakota.
Vera is survived by her husband, Clark Gilbert of Adrian, Missouri; two daughters, Traci DePeralta and husband Stephen of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Heidi Gilbert of Adrian, Missouri; a brother Chuck Prior and wife Judy of Powell, Wyoming; a sister, Lora Lee Dennison and husband Leo of Adrian, Missouri; her mother Beatrice Prior of Adrian, Missouri; two grandchildren Ebony Shaffer and husband Curtis and Stephen Michael DePeralta; two great-granddaughters, Ella and Evelyn
She was preceded in death by her father; a son, Mitchell Gilbert; and a sister, Neva Dow.

Funeral services for Lynn Hatch will be 1:00 PM Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Cleveland Christian Church in Cleveland, Missouri under the direction of the Mullinax Funeral Home in Butler, Missouri (660) 679-0009. Visitation will be Friday evening, 6-8 PM at the Mullinax Funeral Home in Drexel, Missouri. Burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Missouri. Contributions, American Lupus Foundation, or Boy Scouts of America.
Vera Lynn Hatch, 54 of Butler, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at her home in Butler due to complications from stroke and Lupus. Lynn was born July 10, 1957 in Paola, KS, daughter of Robert Lee “Bob” Bishop and Zoe Rene (Nicholls) Bishop. She was a graduate of Francis Howell High School, St. Charles, MO. Lynn was united in marriage to Donald Lee Hatch on March 1, 1980. They lived in Cass County, MO 22 years before moving to Butler 10 years ago.
Lynn had worked as a garment seamstress for area clothing factories, including the Grace Co. in Belton, MO where she enjoyed making children’s clothes. After the Grace Co. closed its doors in the 1990’s, she worked for JC Penney’s in Lenexa, KS as a warehouse employee where she remained until her health forced her to retire in 2010.
Lynn was best known in the Midway R-1, Cleveland, MO community for her tireless involvement in her children’s activities. She was everything from a soccer coach, to den mother (Troop 256, Freeman, MO), to After-Prom Committee member. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, gardening, basket weaving and shopping. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, Old Pueblo Chapter, Tucson, AZ. She will be remembered as a wonderful seamstress who always made beautiful quilts, dresses, and outfits for her family members and beautiful bridesmaid dresses for her daughter’s and sister’s weddings. She enjoyed life to the fullest and loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were her world.

She is survived by her husband, Donald, of the home; a daughter, Amanda Lynn Freidline and husband, Louis of Peculiar; son, Allen Lee Hatch and wife Shanon of Drexel, MO; step-son, Donald Paul “Donny” Hatch of Florissant, MO; her mother, Zoe Rene Bishop of Tucson, AZ; three sisters, Vickie Bishop, Tucson, AZ, Lolita Whitworth, Bois D’Arc, MO, and Velma Butler, Kansas City, MO; half-brother Martie Grimm, Cushing, OK; step-mother, Leanna Bishop, Belton, MO; two step-sisters, Linda Solomon, Belton, MO; and Liz Brockman, Green Ridge, MO; and eight grandchildren.
