LOCAL NEWS-BUTLER CITY COUNCIL-JUNE 4, 2013

The Butler City Council had a routine meeting this week…however one action will be very helpful to not only city employees, but also to the public.

Bud Hayes of the TextCaster Company told the Council that they offer a cellphone service by which all the city employee cell phones can have unlimited texting. The City’s cost will be $1300 dollars a year, and the general public also can subscribe for the service at no extra charge. The council voted to subscribe to this service.

Improvements need to be done to the skateboard park. Trent Diehl, our Public Works Director and Butler’s city engineer have looked it over and the Council decided to have the Parks and recreation Commission to study it and report back.

MC Power asked for an extension to its purchase agreement for the city property it will build on, to allow them to submit an Enhanced Enterprise Zone tax abatement application to Bates County for approval.
The Missouri Department of Economic Development approved the Zone for Bates County in November of 2012, and the city of Butler agreed to participate in the program so the Butler Industrial Park would be eligible. The time extension was agreed to by the Council.

KBRPC submitted a proposal to identify all available commercial and industrial properties within the city and provide management of location services for Butler, at a yearly fee of 42-hundred dollars. However
Butler has already committed over 14-thousand dollars for the Bates County Economic Development position, so the Council decided not to go with this proposal.

The Police Department will be buying three new vehicles as funds are available…

And the city told City Administrator Mark Arbuthnot to go ahead with proceedings to sell off some city properties in East Butler that are not needed.

Weather Update: Possible Storms This Afternoon For Bates County

It Feels like the movie Groundhog Day where things just keep repeating over and over. Today will start a lot like yesterday...showers and thunderstorms moving in this morning. We may see a little redevelopment this afternoon or evening, but storms are not expected to be severe. We'll then dry out for the remainder of the work week before we see a return of storms for the weekend. Yep, we said it. Rain this weekend. If you don't like the forecast, remember, we're in the business of prediction, not production.

Weather Update: Slight Risk For Severe Weather This Evening

While scattered showers and thunderstorms have prevented much in the way of a warmup today, skies have slowly cleared over portions of northern Kansas and northwestern Missouri this afternoon ahead of a cold front moving in from the northwest. A few scattered thunderstorms may redevelop along this boundary late this afternoon and early this evening. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few stronger storms capable of hail and gusty winds will be possible. Additional thunderstorms may be possible over western Kansas this evening, and this activity may track across southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma overnight.
