Obituary - Evelyn Faye Grimes

Funeral services for Evelyn Grimes will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Wayside Waifs. 

Evelyn Faye Grimes, age 83 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born May 4, 1931 to Buenos and Olive Mae Jennings Ayres in Worland, Missouri. 

Evelyn is survived by one son, Robert Duane Grimes of Thayer, Missouri; one daughter, Lynn Rogers and husband Greg of Butler, Missouri; five grandchildren, Chris Wimsatt, Justin Wimsatt and wife Diane, Jonathan Grimes, Micah Grimes and Tamera Grimes; and ten great-grandchildren, Kireston, Kamiron, Kerigan, Kendal and Kooper Wimsatt and Blaine, Paige, Johnny, Cash and Jasmine Grimes. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in May of 2012; one brother, J. R. Ayres and one sister, Wava Smith.

Summer Camp is starting in July of 2014! There will be more information posted on this page as the date gets closer. Get excited!

Children who are entering grades 1st through 6th are invited to come be a part of the first summer of Summer Camp. Throughout the month of July, kids who are a part of the day camp will get to experience so many fun and exciting things: park days, water activities, games, arts and crafts, and all kinds of adventures in between. A summer of boredom will not be on the agenda this year!

This day camp will start at 7:00 am and go until 5:30 pm for all five weeks of July. (Monday, June 30th – Friday, August 1st).

Summer camp will be held at the Ohio Street United Methodist Church. The church has graciously offered to allow us to utilize the church which includes a ton of room inside and out to run and play, learn and grow.

Registration will begin Monday, June 2nd at the Ohio Street United Methodist Church. The deadline for registration forms and payment is the Wednesday before camp starts, Wed, June 25th. However, there are only 15 spots available per group (45 total). To insure your spot, turn in your form ASAP. If you wish to attend only certain weeks of camp you simply have to register and pay on the Wednesday before that week but you can reserve your spot starting June 2nd. There is also the opportunity to pay for the entire summer up front for 460 dollars, a discount of 20 dollars. Butler Saddle Club Rodeo Dance Saturday In Butler


The Butler Saddle Club will be hosting a Rodeo Dance June 21,2014 in the Youth Building at the Butler Fair Grounds.

Local band Wasteland will be preforming from 9pm until 1am, The admission is $5 per person. Everyone is welcomed to attend this event.

Endangered Person Advisory Cancelled


This alert is canceled.  The individual was located at 10:30 a.m. at Riverfront Park by a citizen, in Leavenworth, KS.  She was initially unresponsive, the Leavenworth Police Department responded to the scene along with EMS.  She was transported to Cushing Memorial Hospital, in Leavenworth, KS.  She is now responsive and has been reunited with her family members.  The investigation is continuing by the Patrol surrounding the sequence of events.

Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Swain will be Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Pitman Funeral Home under the direction of the Pitman Funeral Home, Wentzville, Missouri. (Pitman Funeral Home website).  Visitation will be prior to the services from 2 - 4 p.m at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh Methodist Church in Foristell, The Outpost Church of St. Charles or Hospice West in care of Pitman Funeral Home, P.O. Robert William Swain passed away on June 17, 2014 at the age of 73. He was the beloved husband of Alma Swain nee Dukes of Foristell, Missouri; He is survived by his son, Bob (Diann) Swain of Winfield, MO; two daughters: Carmen (Mark) Slivinski of St. Peters, MO and Camille (Rick) Hayden of Lebanon, IL; brother, Don (Darla) Swain of Kansas City, MO; sister, Margaret McLaughlin of Butler, MO; seven grandchildren: Bobby, Jackie, Jessica, Brooke, Alan, Ricky and Autumn; one great-grandchild, Jameson and two on the way. 


He is preceded in death by his parents: Philip and Doris Swain nee Taylor and sister, Rose Herchen. Mr. Swain was an active volunteer with the Wright City School District and the Museum of Transportation. He played basketball in high school and on a recreational team. He enjoyed bluegrass jam sessions, traveling, golf, reading and working on radios. Bob also enjoyed spending time outdoors and with his family. Bob and Alma were married on September 22, 1962, they were married 51 years. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Graveside memorial services for Betse Derrington will be 2:00 PM Saturday, June 21, 2014 in Sharon Cemetery near Drexel, Missouri with Rev. Marc Magna officiating. Visitation will be prior to services, from 1:00 until departure for cemetery at Mullinax Funeral Home – Drexel Chapel, Drexel, Missouri. Betse was passionate about caring for animals; memorial contributions are suggested to the Dogwood Animal Shelter in Osage Beach, Missouri; the ALS Association; or Muscular Dystrophy Association. Olive Elizabeth Westhoff-Derrington, “Betse,” was born February 12, 1948 in the home of her maternal grandparents on Holmes road near Drexel, Missouri. She died June 18, 2014 in Camdenton, Missouri after a prolonged fight with a debilitating, progressive neurologic disease called Machado Josephs Disease that was inherited from her father’s side of the family. The illness had previously taken her father, grandfather, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was an extraordinary woman full of life and love for all. Everyone she met was touched by her sparkling personality. She was a 1966 graduate of Drexel High School. She worked for many years with her husband as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Overland Park, Kansas before retiring to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1996. Once at the lake she became active in the Dogwood Animal Shelter and served as the president of the auxiliary for several years, had her own radio show for the shelter called “Ask Rover,” was president of the Lake Road 7-9 Fireflies auxiliary for the fire department and owned her own antique shop before being forced to retire because of her progressive illness.

She was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband Kenneth L. Derrington, her mother Eloise Westhoff, her brother John Westhoff and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned at the Camdenton Methodist Church in Camdenton, Missouri in mid-July.

Jeff Montgomery, Royals Hall of Fame Pitcher Is coming to Town



Jeff Montgomery, former KC Royal pitcher, and a member of the Royals Hall of Fame, is coming to town on Saturday, June 21st. He will be the featured speaker at the 2nd annual Giving Fore Living Banquet and auction at the Butler Country Club. The banquet will begin at 6pm and the cost is only $20 per person, with children 12 and under free. The Butler County Club is located at 112 Country Club Terrace.

Jeff will be sharing experiences from his 30-year Major League Baseball career and how he has transitioned from professional baseball to business owner to a TV analyst for the Royals.

Montgomery became the ninth American League pitcher and the 23rd pitcher in major league history to accomplish the nine-strike/three-strikeout half-inning.

In 1993, Montgomery saved 45 games. That year he won the American League Rolaids Relief Man Award. Montgomery was also an All-Star in 1992, 1993, and 1996.

Giving Fore Living is an event to celebrate the life of Darin Wainscott. In the coming together of friends and family of Darin, to celebrate his life, his values and his commitment to his family and community.

The money raised by the weekend events will be used to support and promote organ donations, to support local charities reflecting Darin’s values and to support the Darin Wainscott Memorial Scholarship.
