Multiple County Police Chase In Kansas

Yesterday afternoon several police agencies were involved in a high-speed chase.

The chase that started near Fort Scott, Kansas came across Allen County on U.S. Highway 54 and traveled thru parts of Iola including the square and Highland Cemetery.

The chase eventually ended just south of Iola when two deputies pinned the suspect vehicle against a guardrail after the individual rammed a deputies truck.

The male driver and female passenger, both from Fort Scott, were arrested and being held without bond in the Allen County Jail.

Mid America Live News will update when charges are filed and names are released to us from the Allen County Sheriffs Office.

Field fire in Virginia area of Bates County

The Amsterdam Fire Department along with mutual aide from the Butler Fire Department and Amoret Fire Department are on scene of a field fire on C Highway and County Road 4002 which is located North of Virginia.

The wind is playing a huge factor in fighting this fire and crews will remain on scene for unknown amount of time.

Permitless carry starts next week in Missouri

Regardless of your views on the subject, starting January 1st, 2017 you don't need a permit to carry a firearm in Missouri. And if you choose to carry, permit or not, this would be a good time to review how this new ruling will affect you:

Updated Obituary - Beulah May Horn

Beulah May Horn

Beulah May Horn, 85, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery.

Beulah was born October 16, 1931 in Clinton, Missouri, the daughter of Samuel R. and Pearlie M. (Bailey) Oliphant, Sr. She was a lifelong Cass County, Missouri resident and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville.

Beulah worked for Food Town grocery store for 15 years and then for Scavuzzo’s for 13 years before retiring in 1998. While in high school she worked as a “soda jerk” at South Side Drugs on the square. She enjoyed attending all the senior dances in the area.

Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Lyndle Rowland on May 21, 1988 and Donald L. Horn on September 16, 2016, 7 sisters and 4 brothers, Artie Lee, Laura Francis, Johny Robert, Pearlie May, Ethel Ada, Viola Kathrine, Mary Pauline, Ruth Evelyn, Marion Eugene, and Samuel Robert. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Harris (Roger Lehr), Harrisonville, Missouri and Terri Fitzgerald (Pat) Kingwood, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Jerami Harris, Amy Taylor, David Harris, Janna Fitzgerald, and Megan Perez, and 5 great-grandchildren, Jazmyne, Corbyn, Kenady, Kayden, and ZoeJayne.

Bullying becomes criminal offense in Missouri Jan 1

A new law will drastically affect how bullying incidents will be handled at schools all across Missouri

The campaign to stop bullying in schools is headed to a whole new level. In Missouri, what now might be considered assault will be turned into a Class E Felony, which can include jail time starting January 1st, 2017.

The new law applies to fights or bullying on school property, but also includes bus stops and while on the bus headed to and from school. In some cases, it can include other areas off campus as well.

The new level of punishment is being met by mixed emotions on both sides of the coin. Some are saying that it is too harsh; if the victim claims emotional distress, but not physical harm, from the incident(s), that may be enough to go for a felony conviction against the perpetrator. 

Some parents are saying the claim of emotional distress might be hard to prove. Or, disprove. And having a criminal record while a minor can cause what some think is undue hardship later down the road.

By contrast, the parents of Megan Meier, who committed suicide at age 13, say the law didn't come soon enough. The St. Louis area teenager fell victim to cyber bullying nearly a decade ago, long before any such laws or policies were in place.

The law does state that if the person accused of bullying is under the age of 17, they will not face time in prison unless they are tried as an adult. 

NOTE- The new law is not specifically aimed at schools, however they are included in this legislation that will make what might have previously been considered an assault, now a felony. For example, an altercation between two adults at a bar can also be elevated to a felony as well. We recommend researching this subject for more information. 

Archie woman arrested on warrant

On 12/30/16 the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 25 year old Nicole M. Seward of Archie, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) Misdemeanor Lees Summit Police Department Warrant.

Nicole M. Seward was booked into the Bates County Jail and she is currently listed as bondable.
