Obituary - Evelyn (Kirchner) Berg

Evelyn (Kirchner) Berg
Evelyn (Kirchner) Berg, 94, Fairbury, NE, formerly of Nevada, MO passed from this life on February 3, 2017 at Gardenside Nursing Home in Fairbury, NE. Evelyn was born March 27, 1922 in Cumberland, IA to Edwin an Amanda May (Martin) Kirchner.

Evelyn came to Nevada in 1992 and resided here until 2016 when she moved to Nebraska to be closer to her family. She attended the Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, traveling, gardening, and embroidering. She was a member of the MOOSE Lodge, VFW, American Legion, Eagles, and attended the Nevada Senior Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Viola Johnson, Fairbury, NE; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Wagner; two sons, Larry Eblen, and Steve Eblen; one granddaughter, Patricia Stirewalt; one grandson, Bruce Johnson; and one great-grandson, Michael Lockwood.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic, IA with Pastor Nancy Jenson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Cumberland, IA. Friends may call now until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Suspect in custody after police chase in Archie ends in Bates County

On 2/7/17 the Archie Police Department was involved in a short vehicle pursuit that ended in Bates County when the vehicle lost control and wrecked.

After a short time a unknown subject was located and taken into police custody.

Charges are pending on the suspect at this time and Mid America Live News will update when more information on this pursuit is made available to us from the Archie Police Department.

Two arrested after robbery at Pittsburg Kansas Jimmy John's

On Monday, February 6, 2017 at 10:52 pm, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery occurring at Jimmy John's, 1106 South Broadway. An employee called 911 indicating two males wearing face masks robbed the store while brandishing a hand gun and a baseball bat, subsequently leaving in an unknown direction.

One of the responding officers observed two males fitting the suspects' descriptions, riding on bicycles northbound, approximately six blocks north of Jimmy John's, in the area of Ramsey and Broadway streets. One of the males, identified as Anthony R. Reed Jr., age 20 of Pittsburg, soon stopped when given commands by the officer, and was subsequently arrested.

The second subject jumped off his bicycle and fled the area on foot. Another officer soon located the fleeing subject, identified as Nathaniel T. James, age 19 of Pittsburg, at 2nd and Pine Streets (adjacent to the Pittsburg Police Department), where he was subsequently arrested.

The two suspects were booked into the Crawford County Jail for Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Felony Obstruction, Aggravated Assault, Theft and Criminal Trespass.

An airsoft pistol, baseball bat, face mask, bandana and $2.00 taken during the robbery were recovered.

Rockville man arrested on Johnson County warrant

Mark Prater
On Feb. 6, Mark Prater, 47, Rockville, was arrested in St. Clair County on a Johnson County warrant charging class C felony possession of a controlled substance, class D felony resisting arrest, and an unclassified misdemeanor of driving while revoked. Bond is set at $20,000 cash or surety. 

The warrant was issued on Jan. 18 and stems from a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office investigation on Aug. 3, 2016.

Obituary - Dale Wiskur

Dale Wiskur, 88, Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at his home. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 13 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO. 

Friends may call from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
