Benifit Auction for Dennis Davis Jr.

Police warn of possible scam in the area

The Miami County Kansas Sheriff's Office has received information that a scam is going around again where bad people are attempting to prey on our citizens for money. It involves a lie about needing bail money for a relative in jail. Here are the particulars of one recent scam attempt:

"A friend of my grandma received a phone call from her "grandson" who had been arrested and needed bail money. The story was that the grandson is sick (they use this excuse to explain their voice being off) and a friend took them to the pharmacy, their friend was pulled over, and was caught with marijuana and both of them were taken to jail. They were asking for over $20,000 dollars to be wired to them for bail money".

These crooks are relentless, so please share this scam with everyone you know. If you think a relative is in Jail and needing bonded out, call the jail to verify by looking up the phone number yourself. And please be vigilant with your personal information as well.
