Moundville man injured in Barton County Crash
On 5/7/19 around 8:40pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Barton County responded to a one vehicle accident on US 160 around 5 miles south of Liberal.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Barton County says the accident occurred when the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 69 year old Kenneth G. Cartwright of Moundville, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.
Mr. Cartwright sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri for treatment.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Park's Tow of Lamar.

Mother’s Day cards sent from Vernon County Jail
Today more than 100 Mother’s Day cards were mailed on behalf of inmates in the Vernon County Jail. Sheriff Jason Mosher said this is the fourth year this has been done thanks to a ministry called
“The Fathers Love” ran by Gary Almquist. Mosher said Almquist provides the cards and postage to mail them.
“This is a great program that allows inmates to send their mother a card and we are grateful for his time and effort” said Mosher.

Stolen UTV leads to arrests in Barton County

On 05-06-2019 the Barton County Sheriff's Office received a call that a Kabota Utility vehicle had been stolen from a residence located at 339 NW 50th Lane. Chief Deputy Vernon Ring responded to the residence to take the report. The Reporting party believed the utility vehicle was stolen earlier in the morning between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Deputy Ring left from the residence and followed the tracks in the roadway north on NW 45th Ln. When Deputy Ring got to a residence located at 464 NW 45th LN he observed a white Ford F350 truck with a trailer attached to it. The trailer had a Kabota Utility vehicle on it and it matched the description of the one stolen.
When Deputy Ring drove up the driveway he observed a white male subject run from the area of the truck. The male subject was armed with a rifle and headed eastbound along a wooded fence row. Deputy Ring called for help and numerous different Officers from the Lamar Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to his location. Deputy Ring took chase after the subject and gave him loud and clear orders to stop and put the gun down. The subject ran for approximately a 1/2 mile before stopping near a pond. The subject followed the commands of Deputy Ring and was taken into custody.
During the investigation it was learned that the White F-350 truck and Trailer was stolen from Grandview Missouri. The subject arrested for being in possession of the items was Travis D. Linder, age 42, of Holden Missouri. Linder also had a active warrant for parole violation.
During the investigation there where bags located which was believed to belong to Linder. Deputy Ring wrote and Affidavit for a search warrant to search the bags and also the residence for any other people that might be involved with the theft of the Kabota utility vehicle at the residence.
The search warrant was granted and during the search of the bags illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia was located.
Sheriff Shaw, Chief Deputy Ring, Deputy Lance Butler, Deputy Will Weiser, was assisted by Lamar Police Officer Dan Graham and Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Arty Torbeck in searching the home. During the search of the home three subjects was located. The three subjects that were detained was. Amber R. Whitworth, age 31 who had a warrant for her arrest for violating her parole. The two other subjects located in the home was Johnny B. Brooks, age 42, of Lamar and Tara E. Bohrn, age 29, of Lamar. During the search of the home illegal drugs and paraphernalia was located.
Lamar Police Department K9 Officer Toby Luce and his K9 partner Hondo responded to the scene to assist in searching for illegal substances which was located.
Probable cause statements was sent to the Barton County prosecutor on 05-07-2019 and formal charges was filed that afternoon. Tara E. Bohrn, Johnny B. Brooks, and Amber R. Whitworth was charged with Possession of a controlled substance. They all three have a $5,000 dollar cash or surety bond.

Obituary - Dorothy Mae (Johnson) Walker
Dorothy Mae Walker, 80, Sheldon, MO passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin following a brief illness. Dorothy was born October 2, 1938 in Ordway, CO to Verl and Ester Johnson. She married Edward D. Walker on June 9, 1967 in Miami, OK and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2000.
Dorothy attended school in Lockwood and Golden City. She came to Sheldon in 1957 and worked as a waitress at various restaurants in the Sheldon area. Dorothy was a member of Sheldon Christian Church and the Sheldon Lions Club. In 2013 she was the Grand Marshall of the Sheldon Old Settlers Picnic. Dorothy loved fishing and camping. She was also well known for her fudge and divinity that she made each year at Christmastime.
Survivors include four children, Danny Lee Johnson, Fairland, OK, Daniel Walker and his wife Dee, Lamar, MO, Dennis Walker and his wife Sandy, Sheldon, Debbie Huggins and her husband Roger, Sheldon, MO; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (number seven arriving in July); one sister, Bettie Helsel, Colorado Springs, CO; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Edward, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Willa Faye McNary.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Wayne Coble officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Sheldon Old Settlers Picnic in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
