Obituary - James "Jim" Charles Dill

James “Jim” Charles Dill, 87, Peculiar, MO, departed his earthly life to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Belton Medical Center in Belton, MO. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 22 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. 

A visitation will also be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, at the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home in Buffalo, MO with funeral services at 11:00. Burial in Memorial Gardens of Memory in Buffalo.

Jim was born February 20, 1932 near March, (Dogtown) MO, a son of Albert and Dorothy (Austin) Dill. Jim spent his younger years on the family farm, attending Flint Ridge Grade School, Charity and Elkland High Schools, graduating in 1951, the year his basketball team went to state. After graduation, Jim enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict in Japan, Korea and the Philippines. He returned to the United States serving six more years at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Grandview, MO.

Jim married Shirley J. VanGilder on August 20, 1955 in Buffalo, MO. To this union were born two children, Susan L. Dill and James C. Dill, Jr. Jim retired from Farmland Industries as a Co-op manager at Sedalia and Pleasant Hill, MO. He then went to auto body school and spent the next few years enjoying his auto body business. He loved to ride his horse, “Patches”, on trail rides, jam with the group at Long Lane, singing and playing his guitar. He was saved as a young man at the Center Point Baptist Church and currently was an active member of the Peculiar Baptist Church, as long as his health permitted.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Merilee Laughlin. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley J., of the home; his two children, Susan L. and James C. Dill, Jr., both of Kansas City, MO; one granddaughter, Sarah J. Dill, Kansas city, MO and one great-grandchild, Wolfe Thomas Smith, Kansas City.

Jim will be missed by his family, friends and church family.


Obituary - Jessie Edith Schapeler

Funeral services for Edith Schapeler will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at Schowengerdt Chapel.

Jessie Edith Schapeler, age 85 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Medicalodge in Butler. She was born October 29, 1934 to Edwin and Leota Banghart Fox in Milo, Missouri.

Edith is survived by three sons, Donald Schapeler and wife Kelli of Rockville, Missouri, Philip Schapeler and wife Judy of Butler, Missouri and David Schapeler and wife Belinda of Appleton City, Missouri; one daughter, Linda Howard and husband Lyle of Butler, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Michael Snethen and wife Grace of Butler, Missouri, Mark and Monte Schapeler of Butler, Missouri, Matthew Schapeler of Lathrop, Missouri, Amelia Murphy and husband Keith of Nevada, Missouri, Katrina Rich and husband Jeremy of Rich Hill, Missouri, Rachel Dickerson and husband Tanner of Newton, Kansas, Robin Swanson and husband Micah of Nevada, Missouri and Hayden Schapeler of Appleton City, Missouri one step-grandchild, six great-grandchildren, Kayla Snethen, and Logan Snethen of Butler, Missouri, Duff Murphy, Fox Murphy and Pace Murphy of Nevada, Missouri and Madilyn Swanson of Nevada, Missouri and 2 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon in 2011; one sister, Alice Scheilz; and a brother, Denzil Fox.


Stolen vehicle in Adrian

On November 16th a Deputy took a report of a stolen truck that had occurred within the last two weeks. The truck was stolen from a property on State Route CC in Adrian, MO. The truck is a 2006 Chevy Silverado with a crew cab. 

The driver's side mirror on the truck had been damaged and was adhered to the vehicle with tape. The Deputy had the vehicle entered into MULES as stolen. A picture of the stolen vehicle is below.

Obituary - Douglas Eric Gilman

Douglas Eric Gilman, 59, Nevada, MO passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Medicalodges in Nevada following a brief illness. He was born December 21, 1959 in Denver, CO to George Alfred and June Ellen (Pettibon) Gilman. He was married to Evelyn “Dee” Garrison and she preceded him in death.

Doug came to Nevada at a young age with his family and attended Nevada High School. He worked at Extrusions in Ft. Scott for several years, he also worked in roofing, and the construction business for many years. He enjoyed fishing, and he attended the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church in Nevada.

Survivors include his companion of more than 30 years, Debbie Yokley; one daughter, Courtney Gilman, Stover, MO; siblings, Judy Rocco, Nevada, Janie Duffey, Nevada, David Gilman Nevada, Darryl Gilman, Bronaugh; numerous, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Donald Gilman, and an infant sister, Connie Gilman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Obituary - Vallie Jean Troup

Vallie Jean Troup, 63, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at her home surrounded by love and family.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Troup of the home; two sons, Robert Troup Jr. and Matthew Troup both of Harrisonville, Missouri; three daughters, Angela Butler, Jessica Troup and Amanda Troup all of Harrisonville, Missouri; 11 grandchildren with 2 on the way; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Audie King of Montana; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:30 pm, Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Serenity Care Hospice.

Obituary - Kenneth Howard James

Kenneth Howard James, 94, Nevada, MO passed away on November 16, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. He was born February 4, 1925 in Tomah, Wisconsin to Phillip and Alice (Belcher) James.

Known to his family as Ken or Howard, he grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Tomah High School. A few years later he entered the United States Army during WWII and served in the Occupation of Japan. Following his discharge from the service, Ken went home to Tomah. He then reenlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. On October 11, 1952 he married Dolores Lee and to this union five children were born. Ken loved to sing, gardening, and traveling.

He is survived by one daughter, Debbie McIntire and her husband Chuck, Moundville, MO; three sons, Dennis James, Sugar Creek, MO, David James and his wife Mary, Independence, MO, Doyle James and his wife Jackie, Louisville, KY; six grandchildren, Chuckie, Shaun, Gary Lee, Christopher, Devin, Michelle; and 13 great-grandchildren; .his brother, Marlyn and his wife Charlene, Edwardsville, IL; one sister, Lois Bartels and her husband Garlie, E. Alton, IL;

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; daughter, Diane; grandson, Phillip; his parents; brother, Bill James; and sister, Marita Fleek.

Private family services will be held at a later time. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
