When you are struggling with health goals, a support group can really help. Bates County Memorial Hospital hosts the following support groups:

Weight Management Support Group: Portion Distortion -  Appropriate portions of all foods

Grief & Loss and Quit Smoking Support Groups are led by Jennifer Eick-Jakiela, LCSW, Behavioral Health Consultant for Family Care Clinics of BCMH.

Reservations are not required to attend BCMH Support groups. Attending is free. All meetings are held at the hospital, 615 W. Hume teen injured in Bates County Rollover accident

On 1/24/20 around 12:01am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Bates County EMS responded to a one vehicle accident on Route A just west of Missouri Route U near Hume, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1995 Chevrolet truck driven by 19 year old Dylan L. Nicholas of Hume, Missouri lost control on snow covered roadways causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and overturn.

Mr. Nicholas sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by the drivers father.

Obituary - "Sandi" Joyce Dailey

Sandra “Sandi” Joyce Dailey of Garden City, Missouri was born December 9, 1944 in Nyack, New York the daughter of Melford Faynesby and Sophie (Jones) Quelch. She departed this life on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 10 days.

On May 25, 1979, Sandi was united in marriage to Robert E. “Bob” Dailey in Garden City, Missouri.

Sandi was employed as a bus driver for the Sherwood School District, Creighton, Missouri until her retirement in 2000. Earlier she had been employed at the Garden City Garment Factory and later at the Clinton Chicken Hatchery. Sandi was a member of the Garden City Chapter #340 Order of the Eastern Star joining on March 11, 1974, First Baptist Church, Garden City where she taught Sunday school and later the United Methodist Church, Garden City. She loved going to the Casino’s, being outdoors, mowing her lawn, gardening and sewing.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Dailey on June 1, 2010; a great-granddaughter, Rylee Maye Woolery and a sister, Eleanor Courtney.

Sandi is survived by a son, Jerry Fuller and wife Amy, Harrisonville, Missouri; 3 daughters, Mary Bryant and husband Rick and Donna Morris all of Creighton, Missouri, Kathy Hopkins and husband Rusty, Garden City, Missouri; two step-daughters, Tori Burris, Harrisonville, Missouri, Tina Powell, Memphis, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2020 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2020 at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Three Arrested, Drug Seized After Search Warrant of a Nevada Home

According to Officials with the Sheriff’s Office, three Nevada residents were taken into custody after Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at a residence on E. Sycamore Street in Nevada, MO on Wednesday morning. 

According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, a team from the Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant and was able to take multiple people into custody before the suspects even had time to get out of bed. 

“The residence, including a separate structure had multiple people in different areas of the home that needed to be detained at the same time in order to preserve the evidence.” Mosher said two separate teams communicating with each other, made it to all the suspects at the same time.” Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located during the search.

The suspects have been identified as 41-year-old Jennifer Stark, of Nevada, 28-year-old Codey Henderson, of Nevada, and 39-year-old Viola Holman, of Nevada. 

On Thursday morning, warrants were issued by the Courts charging Henderson and Stark with Possession of a Controlled Substance, with a $5,000 cash only bond. Both Henderson and Stark are being held in the Vernon County Jail. Holman is also being held in the Vernon County Jail on multiple Failure to Appear warrants of original Felony drug charges.

Alan Glenn French was born November 14, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert and Vera Igo French. He grew up in Kansas City and graduated from East High School in Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law Eula French. Alan is survived by his children, Josh and Kara French, siblings, Steve French of Sheldon, MO., Paul French and wife Susie of Butler, MO., Nancy Parlova and husband Randy of Tempe, AZ.

Death of Pittsburg Kansas woman under investigation

The deceased female that was located in Opolis Wednesday morning was identified as Brandi S. Moore, 35 of Pittsburg Kansas. Preliminary external examination of the body by the pathologist has indicated that the injuries sustained by Moore are consistent with being struck by a vehicle. A completed autopsy and official cause of death are pending.

The identity of the driver and vehicle has not been determined at this time. The time of death death occurred between 8:00 pm Tuesday January 21st and 6:00 am Wednesday January 22nd. It happened on Walnut Street between 2nd and 3rd Street east of the Opolis City Park. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Dana was born November 8, 1953 in Butler, Missouri to Lloyd and JoAnn Smith Fahnestock. She grew up in Butler and graduated from Butler High School. She was united in marriage to Clifford Lawrence in 1971. From this union two children were born. She was a good wife and mother with several talents and enjoyments including, painting, playing the piano, reading, and a love for puzzles.

Dana was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Deborah Tippie. She is survived by her husband of 48 years Clifford Lawrence, son Patrick Lawrence (Nancy), daughter Jackie Davis (Mike), grandchildren, Joe White, Macaja White, Anna Marie White (Frederick R. Pement), Niandralyn Lawrence, Nicklas Lawrence, and one great-grandson Samuel Pement.
