Donald Eugene Evans entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of February 24, 2020 with his children by his side. He was born in a small town in Chanute, Kansas on Sept 7, 1950. He battled Kennedy’s disease since his diagnosis in 2005. He was originally given 2 years to live and fought hard for 13+ years.
Don was a man of convicted faith who believed the truth of the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. So much that he would later be disciple and become a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Don’s greatest testimony of faith though was in that he lead his family by example in generosity, gratitude, grace and most importantly endless unconditional love.
Don is survived by his 2 brothers- Ron and Tom, 2 sister-in-laws Connie and Patti. His big brother and best friend Bob passed away 9 months ago in Kansas. He also has 7 children- son Courtney (dear one, Katie, previous daughter-in-law Tracy), daughter Desiree, son Lance, daughter Shauna, son Mike, son Travis, daughter-in-law Amanda, and son Derek. Don has 13 grandchildren- Cendall, Chloe, Gracie, Zack, Kyle, Gianna, Nikita, Nick, Emma, Brooks, Alexsis, Gabby, Abram, and Corbin.
Don also leaves behind countless friends whom he considered his extended family.
He was an avid sports fan. You could always catch him in front of a TV any time his beloved Jayhawks were playing. His normal attire was pants and one of his many Kansas Jayhawks shirts, jackets, or hoodies. Recently he watched his Kansas City Chiefs win their 2nd Super Bowl. He was proud that he watched both super bowl wins which were separated by 50 years. Not only was he an avid sports fan, he was a great athlete as well. Anyone close to him has heard many stories of his legacy in Madison playing basketball, baseball, football and golf. Throughout his golfing years, he had 3 hole in one’s. He might have a record for being the only person ever to be cursing that he hit a bad shot as his makes a hole in one.
Don will be greatly missed by everyone that has crossed his path.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton.
