Obituary - Norna Helen Cooper

With the upsurge of COVID-19 we request all who attend the visitation and funeral for Nona wear a mask to the funeral home.

Please respect the social distancing rules and think of others' safety as well as your own. Please sit with proper 6 foot spacing between pews. We appreciate your cooperation and courtesy at this time.

The funeral service for Nona will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2020 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

Visitation will be preceding the service from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. The minister officiating at the service will be Pastor Harry Cooper.

Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. following the service, at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home.

Norna Helen Cooper, age 86 passed away peacefully on August 30, 2020 at her home in rural Bates County, Missouri. She was the daughter of John Lee and Helen (Gilbert) Moore, born on December 6, 1933. Norna spent her formative years in the Alta Loma, Texas area, where she graduated from High School in 1952. After completing her education, she met George Cooper and they were married in 1958, moving to French Village, Illinois. To this union four children were born: Penny, George Jr, Julia, and Harry. After extensive traveling with George’s construction career, the family then relocated to the Appleton City area, where they bought their farm and remained there the rest of their lives.

Norna’s family was the most important thing to her, especially her children and grandchildren. She worked hard taking care of her kids, washing clothes, cooking meals, and makings sure life was fun. Babysitting most of her grandchildren remained one of her most cherished actives. Apart from her family, gardening and sewing were her favorite two hobbies. Norna was a devout Christian that served her lord with her whole heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Lee and Helen (Gilbert) Moore; and her husband, George Cooper.

Survivors include: two sons, George E. Cooper, Jr. and Harry Cooper; two daughters, Penny Grechus and Julie Smith; one brother Albert Moore; 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and great friends. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.


Obituary - DeLynne Marie Wright

DeLynne Marie Wright, 76, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 at St. Luke’s South in Overland Park, KS. No services are scheduled.

DeLynne was born July 21, 1944 in Carroll, IA, a daughter of Albert and Helen (Stilwell) Morris. She had lived in Harrisonville for 28 years. DeLynne worked for the State of Kansas as a social worker before retiring.

DeLynne is survived by one son, David Wright, Scandia, KS; one daughter, Lisa Wright, Goldsboro, NC; one brother, Larry Vust, of Florida; 3 grandchildren, Jessica, Justina and Misty, and nieces and nephews, Tracy, Randy, Sonny, Heather, and Misty.


Clinton Fire Department is in need of bicycles for Project Christmas Cheer

The Clinton Fire Department is in need of bicycles for Project Christmas Cheer. Each year Clinton Fire Fighters assemble and restore approximately 75 to 100 bicycles. 

These bicycles are distributed by the Samaritan Center to underprivileged children in the community at Christmas time. 

Please help with this worthwhile endeavor by donating new, used, or unwanted bicycles. 

Bicycles can be delivered to the fire station at 301 South Washington Street in Clinton or can be picked up (Clinton city limits only) by calling the fire station at (660) 885-2560. 

Monetary donations are also accepted to purchase new bicycles.
Fire Chief Mark Manuel and staff would like to thank you for helping to make this project a success for so many years.

Motor Vehicle accident just south of Butler on I-49

The Butler Fire Department along with Bates County EMS, Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers are on scene of a multiple vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 131 close to Butler.

One person is said to be injured and is being checked out at this time by Bates County EMS. Please slow down and use caution if you must travel in this area.

Henry County Health Center confirms 3 new positive cases of COVID-19



The Henry County Health Center (HCHC) has received confirmation of three more positive cases of COVID-19. One who resides in the town of Clinton, one who resides in the town of Montrose and one who resides in the town of Deepwater. All close contacts to confirmed cases. No children. This brings the total number of confirmed positive cases in Henry County to 118.

All contact tracing has commenced and all parties that have had close contact are being notified. HCHC continues to encourage residents to practice social distancing, washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more, and to remain home if you are sick.

The CDC continues to recommend that individuals to wear a face covering when you are in public, and are unable to social distance, to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Butler City Council Meeting Tonight

The Butler City Council will hold a meeting tonight at City Hall starting at 7:00 p.m.
