Harrisonville woman injured in Cass County Crash

On March 8th around 12:42pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a one vehicle accident on Route Y at 199th Street in rural Cass County.

The Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a 2015 Nissan driven by 50 year old Alicia C. Peterson crossed the center line of traffic and struck a utility pole.

Peterson sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by J's Southland Tow.

Obituary - Judith Ann “Judy” Goff

Judith Ann “Judy” Goff , age 78, of Raymore , Missouri, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Raymore Rehabilitation Center in Raymore, Missouri.

Judy was born in Kansas City, Kansas on August 29, 1942 to Clarence and Edith (Marr) Hickam. She grew up in Independence and was married to Bob Goff in December 1964. During her early career she worked at Hallmark and enjoyed involvement in many special projects and events while she was there including , Kaleidoscope, the Soviet Sports Exhibit in the 1980’s, and working on several publications. 

Some of her proudest moments there were researching the biography of Joyce Hall and serving as an archivist during the Hyatt Skywalk disaster. She also wrote freelance articles for Kansas City Magazine including one about the Kansas City Fire Department where she met her second husband Bill Germann. 

They married in 1977 and moved to a farm west of Harrisonville, Missouri where they raised pigs. Never one to shy from a new adventure Judy jumped right in and learned all there was to know about trail riding, farm life and living with baby pigs in your kitchen! Following a move “to town” Judy began selling real estate in Cass County. She continued this for over 20 years. In 1995 she remarried Bob and moved across the country to Morehead City, North Carolina where she embraced her love of watercolors and began to paint and teach art classes. 

She helped start a Coop Art Gallery and enjoyed beach life. In 2000, she and Bob returned to Raymore to be closer to family. She entered the Raymore political scene and served on city council and the planning and zoning commission. 

She will be remembered for her deep commitment to working passionately to make Raymore a better place. She and Bob opened The Frame Shop and she continued to teach art lessons and was known to her customers for her dedication and care of their precious keepsakes. 

Declining health led her to Raymore Rehab where she lived for 8 years and developed a reputation for her spunk and vitality. Remembered by her friends for her strength, wit, determination and kindness she will be missed.

She leaves to cherish and miss her greatly her children Mary Beth and her wife Kathy Jones of Carbondale, Illinois and her son J. Phillip Goff and his wife Sydney of Overland Park, Kansas and her loving grandchildren of whom she was immensely proud; Andrew and Maya Jones and Jeffrey and Emmy Goff. She is also survived by a sister Carol Miller (Dan) and a brother Ted Hickam (Dee) and nieces and nephews Sam and Vicki Miller and LeeAnn Constant and Michael Hickam.

Harry S. Truman Visitor Center will open for the 2021 season on Thursday, April 15th

We are pleased to announce that the Harry S. Truman Visitor Center in Warsaw will open for the 2021 season on Thursday, April 15th. 

Operating hours will be Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Tuesday/Wednesday. Staff and visitors will be required to wear face masks while inside the Visitor Center.

Obituary - Dixie Lee Knier

Dixie Lee Knier, 85, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at her home in Nevada. Dixie was born July 24, 1935 in Westerly, WV to Charles L. and Lenora E. (Rust) Shamblin.

Dixie came to Neosho from New York State where she resided for seven years. She has lived in Nevada for the past three years. Dixie loved her family and her many friends.

Survivors include, one son, Carl Knier of Nevada and his wife Chandra of Neosho; two granddaughters, Teresa Knier, Joplin, MO, and Danielle Knier, Neosho, MO; one great granddaughter, Nylah Rose Knier; one sister, Debra Shamblin, Alabama; two nieces, Heather Hubbs and Holly Hubbs, both of Durango, CO.

No services are planned.



Missing Cass County man found dead in Lafayette County

Harrisonville, MO. – A man reported missing in Cass County on March 5th, has been identified as the victim of a homicide in Lafayette County. Detectives with the Cass, Lafayette, and Ray County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the death of Tyler M. Gooding, 25, Pleasant Hill, as a homicide.


On Monday, investigators following leads in the case identified a person of interest in Lafayette County. That person was taken into custody after a lengthy pursuit in Ray County on Monday afternoon involving numerous law enforcement agencies.

At this time the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency in the investigation. The person arrested on Monday is currently in custody at the Lafayette County Jail.

“While not the outcome we had hoped for when searching for a missing person, the collective efforts of multiple sheriff offices lead to the identification and arrest of a suspect,” said Sheriff Jeff Weber.

James Robert Gorman, age 66 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, March 3, 20201 at his home in Butler. He was born July 15, 1954 to James Russell and Sally Marie Haller Gorman in Havre, Montana.

James is survived by his wife, Libby Gorman of Butler, Missouri.
