A transformation happening in Drexel...
An old pin oak is getting a new lease on life in the form of a sculpture in Drexel. Artist Jason Morton is hard at work this morning with his chainsaw at 5th and Locust making the transformation... into what you say? We'll let that be a surprise.

Semi truck rollover accident in Bates County
On June 9th around 10:30 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Butler Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 125.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2022 Freightliner driven by 25 year old Angelica Navarro of Pomona, California traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
Angelica Navarro along with a passenger in her vehicle 21 year old Osvaldo Rosales-Flores of Sun Valley, California both sustained minor injuries in this accident and both were transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The semi truck was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by J's Southland Tow.

Obituary - Stephen R. Hanson
Stephen R. Hanson, age 74, of Warsaw, Missouri passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at his home. He was born on November 13, 1946 in Bates County, Missouri, the son of Wilbur and Dorothy (Kiersey) Hanson. Steve grew up in Bates County and graduated from Ballard High School.
He worked as a lineman for Osage Valley Electric for thirty-five years. In 2008, he retired and moved to Warsaw. Steve was involved in the Warsaw Heritage Days and his efforts were recognized this year in the dedication of the Hanson Homestead. He loved to tell jokes and collect arrowheads and was a history enthusiast.
He is survived by two sons; Scott Hanson, of Victoria, Texas and Travis Hanson and his wife Kiya, of Magnolia, Texas, a brother, Nels Hanson, of Adrian, Missouri, three grandchildren; Ty Hanson and his wife Helen, Kit Hanson and Kaisen Hanson, all of Magnolia, Texas and two nephews; Brad Hanson, of Branson, Missouri and Glen Hanson, of Phoenix, Arizona.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri.

Amaryllis Miley, 89, died peacefully on October 31, 2020, in Sanford Florida. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 24th, 2021 with visitation starting at 9:30 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Clinton, Missouri. She was born Amaryllis Mavis Amend on July 18, 1931 in Eau Claire WI to John and Bessie Amend and attended Memorial High School in Eau Claire. She married William J. (Bill) Miley on May 13, 1950 on Governor’s Island, New York. They were married for 58 years and had nine children.
Known to her friends as Marlys, she volunteered as a teacher’s aide at St. Peter’s School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1973. Two years later, she enrolled at the University of Missouri Kansas City taking night and summer classes while working full-time. By 1980 she had earned a bachelor's degree in education and eight years later she received a master's degree in education. During her career, she held teaching and administrative positions at St. Peter's, and served as principal of two elementary schools, before retiring in 1992. In 1993 she moved to Clinton Missouri, where she joined Holy Rosary Parish, volunteered at Golden Valley Hospital, and formed many lasting relationships. In 2013, she moved to Blue Springs, Missouri, and in 2020 she moved to Sanford Florida to reside with her daughter Margaret Miley.
Marlys loved her large extended family and her circle of friends, with whom she spent countless hours playing cards. She faced the challenges of raising a large family with determination, skill and love, taking great pride in their accomplishments and savoring the time spent with them after she retired.
Her husband Bill Miley, son Martin Miley and daughter Michele Miley preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Mary Ellen Sunseri and husband Tom of Blue Springs, MO; Kathie Williams and husband Paul of Pleasant Hill MO; Laurie Watkins and husband David of Landenberg PA; William Miley Jr of Fort Wayne, IN; Molly Goodrich and husband Charles of Independence MO; Margaret Miley and wife Amy of Sanford FL; and Jonni Nuhn and husband Tony of Kearney MO; as well as 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home Clinton, Missouri. Memorial services will be scheduled for a later date.

Beverly Jo McDonald, 80, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at St. Luke’s East in Lee’s Summit, MO. Interment 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville. The family requests those in attendance wear masks.
Beverly was born December 22, 1940 in Kansas City, MO, a daughter of Harry Virgil Oliver and Dorothy Gladys (Ryan) Armstrong. Beverly attended school in Kansas City, MO before moving to Harrisonville in early 1970’s. She married James “Jim” Robert McDonald in July, 1960. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of the home and her family.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Jim; two daughters, Jana Lynn Evans and Cynthia Ann Michael and her husband, Ron; one brother, Ron Armstrong; and 2 grandchildren, Mark Alden Evans and his wife, Katie, and Heather Marie Michael.

Cass County Sheriff’s office has announced the passing of our retired K9 Loki
It is with a heavy heart that the Cass County Sheriff’s office has to announce the passing of our retired K9 Loki. "Loki served the citizens of Cass County from 2013 to 2020, and will be missed by our agency" said Sheriff Weber.
The sad passing comes on the 26th anniversary of the accident that claimed the life of Cass County Deputy Kevin Mayse. Deputy Mayse was injured in a motor vehicle accident during a pursuit on June 9th, 1995. He succumbed to the injuries just four days later on June 13th 1995.
To honor their service, Deputies will be displaying mourning bands over their badges until Monday June 14th.

Aren Wayne Goodall, age 20, Mound City, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 as the result of an accident. He was born on January 2, 2001 in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School. He owned and operated B&C Tree Service. Aren enjoyed all things outdoors, fishing, camping, working on cars and motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wayne Goodall Sr. and Minnie Goodall. Aren is survived by his parents, Wayne "Beaver" and Lisa Goodall, brothers, Ryan Goodall and David Lee Farmer, sisters, Leah Goodall, Britney Lynn Goodall, Michelle Goodall, McKenzie Goodall, Angel Goodall, and Ashlee Marie Farmer, maternal grandparents, Karen and Mark Eldridge, adopted grandparents, George and Sherry Moss and his dog Phelix.
