Obituary - James L. Green

Memorial graveside service and inurnment for James L. Green of Cheyenne, Wyoming will be 11:00 a.m. April 29, 2023 at the White Oak Cemetery near Urich, Missouri under the direction of Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Online condolences www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

James L. Green was born on October 6, 1930 on the family farm in Kesley, IA, James Green died, Monday, January 16, 2023, at the Life Care Center of Cheyenne, at the age of 92. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Green and Grandson Eric Dunlap. Survived by his daughter Jane A Dunlap, Phoenix AZ, and his son Stuart Green, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Grandfather to Jacob Dunlap, Austin, TX. Great grandfather to Zoey and Wyatt Dunlap, Phoenix, AZ and Landon and Ella Dunlap, Austin, TX.

Mr. Green earned his bachelor’s degree at Dubuque University, IA and was a graduate of McCormick Seminary school, Chicago. After graduation, he began his life’s work as a Presbyterian minister. He served in the Gresham, Gothenburg, Fairbury and Alliance churches in Nebraska before moving to Cheyenne WY in 1986. He retired in 1995. During retirement, James and Mary Lou traveled to visit family and many national landmarks. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Wyoming mountains. He loved to garden and work in the yard.

In addition to his work in the church, he was a 60 year active member in Kiwanis International, helping to establish a number of clubs in Nebraska and Wyoming. He served as President in Fairbury and Alliance NE chapters.

Single lane closures scheduled for a portion of I-49 beginning April 17th in Cass County

CASS COUNTY – Crews will be making pavement repairs along northbound and southbound Interstate 49 between 163rd Street (Belton) to just north of Harrisonville beginning on Monday, April 17. Work will be overnight beginning at 8 p.m. until approximately 6 a.m. the following mornings on both Monday, April 17th, and Tuesday, April 18th.

During this time, there will various single lane closures in both direction of I-49. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area, plan ahead, and consider alternate routes. All work is weather permitting. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike.

Butler man arrested on warrants

On April 11th around 8:12 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 49 year old William A. McCloud of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. McCloud was arrested on the following charges:

1.) Felony possession of a controlled substance
2.) Misdemeanor Cass County Sheriff's Office Warrant 
3.) Driving while suspended
4.) Fail to display valid plates 
5.) Possession of drug paraphernalia 

William A. McCloud was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently listed as bondable.

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri Highway Patrol, announces the following promotion effective May 1, 2023.

Sergeant Shawn M. Griggs, Division of Drug & Crime Control, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, will be promoted to lieutenant and designated an assistant director of the Gaming Division, General Headquarters, and have oversight responsibility for the Investigative Unit.

Griggs was appointed to the Patrol on October 17, 2004, as a member of the 83rd Recruit Class. After completing his training at the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 3, St. Louis County. On February 1, 2010, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop C, Zone 4, South St. Louis County. In February 2011, he transferred to the Division of Drug & Crime Control as a narcotics investigator. He assumed the responsibilities of coordinator for the East Central Drug Task Force in 2012, while serving in DDCC. Griggs was promoted to sergeant on December 1, 2014, and remained in his assignment within DDCC. He became the division’s public information officer and training officer in 2015, and assumed responsibilities of Missouri Digital Forensics Center operations manager in 2021. Beginning February 2023, he also served as the supervisor for the Illegal Gambling Investigation Unit, DDCC.

Lieutenant Griggs was born in St. Louis, MO, and graduated from Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, MO, in 1999. He attended Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice in 2004. The university recognized him as one of its Distinguished Young Alumni in 2014. He graduated from Leadership in Police Organizations training in 2017. Lieutenant Griggs is married, and he and his wife have a son.

Butler Bears Varsity Baseball team clinches lead in seventh Inning to defeat St. Michael 14-13

The Butler Bears Varsity Baseball team Clinches Lead in Seventh Inning to Defeat St. Michael the Archangel 

The Butler Bears Varsity baseball team stole the lead late in the game in a 14-13 victory over St. Michael the Archangel on baseball action Wednesday. 

The game was tied at nine with the Butler Bears battling in the top of the seventh when Maddox Fennewald singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Despite falling down by five runs in the seventh inning, St. Michael the Archangel tried to fight back.

St. Michael the Archangel scored four runs in the failed comeback on an error, a walk by Berry, and a single by Cure. 

St. Michael the Archangel captured the lead in the first inning. Goose drove in one when Gose singled. In the top of the fifth inning, Butler Bears tied things up at nine. Jake Chandler’s sac fly scored two runs for the Butler Bears.

St. Michael the Archangel scored six runs in the third inning. Cure,Briggs,and Simpson each drove in runs during the inning. 

Zayn Carson was on the hill for the Butler Bears. The pitcher surrendered nine runs on three hits over two and a third innings, striking out five.

Hose was on the mound for St. Michael the Archangel. The pitcher lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs while striking out two. Zaun there two and a third innings in relief.

The Butler Bears tallied 12 hits. Fennewald, Eli Cox, and Carson all had multiple hits for the Butler Bears. Fennewald went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Butler Bears in hits.

Zaun led St. Michael the Archangel with two hits in four at bats. The Butler Bears will play this Friday in Buffalo against the bison. 









Way to go Magal!

It was signing day for Rich Hill Senior Magal Chol-Case today! Magal signed with the intent of playing basketball at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Mo. He will also be taking dental hygiene classes at MSSU. Congratulations Magal!
