Drexel lady track athletes setting new school records!

Drexel lady track athletes setting New school records!!!!!

4x200 meter relay team- Josie Parks, Grace Francis, Gracie Marks, Emily Wheeler. New record- 1:51.39

The original record, 1:51.6, was set in 1992. One of the members on that team was Jennifer (Hellebuyck) Parks, Josie’s mom. 

Other members were Tonya Hocker Suschnick, Sharolyn Weers Barnhart, and Sharise Weers-Hettinger.

Josie Parks also broke her own record at the Adrian meet last week in the 100 meter dash with a new time of 12.53. 

Emily Wheeler broke her own triple jump record at the Adrian meet with a new distance of 35’7.25”.

Early Lead For Harrisonville Seals Fate for Butler Bears Varsity Baseball Team:

The Butler Bears Varsity baseball team fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 9-2 loss to the Harrisonville Wildcats on Monday. Harrisonville scored on a single by Goss and an error in the first inning. 

The Bears struggled to contain the high-powered offense of a Harrisonville, giving up nine runs. In the first inning, Harrisonville got their offense started when Goss singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Harrisonville score three runs n the sixth inning. Shuey and Mitchell all drove in runs in the frame. Goss got the start for Harrisonville. The pitcher laser six innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out eight. Zayn Carson was on the Hill for the Bears.

The righty allowed three hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Eli Cox threw two and a third innings out of relief. Carson, Cox, Peyton Jackson, and Brayden Jackson all had one hit to lead the Bears.

Harrisonville tallied seven hits. Stolte and Goss each manganese multiple hits for Harrisonville. Harrisonville stole five bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Worthley led the way with two.



Obituary - Daryl Lynn ‘Dozer’ Smith

Daryl Lynn ‘Dozer’ Smith was born May 21,1975 to Randall Lee Smith and Deborah Kay (Vest) Witt at Cedar County Memorial Hospital El Dorado Springs, Missouri and passed away March 30th, 2023 after a short hard fought battle with cancer.

Daryl spent most of his life in the trucking industry until his health started to fail from diabetes. Daryl’s biggest joy in life was the birth of his son Jackson Oliver Smith in 2012.

Daryl had a passion for the outdoors especially fishing. Always searching for that big catfish! Daryl loved all sports. Baseball, Nascar and watching the Kansas City Chiefs were some of his favorites.

Daryl is survived by his parents Randy Smith of Buffalo, Missouri and Debbie Witt of Caddo Mills, Texas. One son Jackson Oliver Smith of Bolivar, Missouri. Also his bonus children Brandon, Trinity and Nathan Guffey of Bolivar, Missouri. His siblings Deanna Hoelscher (Brandon) of Caddo Mills, Texas Stephanie Glor (Jed) of Buffalo, Missouri Robert Smith (Donna) of Excelsior Springs, Missouri and Samantha Peterman (Tad) of Willard, Missouri.

Two very special Uncles Cliff Vest (Angie) of Marshfield, Missouri and Jerry (JB) Smith (Judy) of Buffalo, Missouri many other family members and friends. God has you in his arms, I have you in my heart.

Obituary - Jo Erwin

Loretta Jo (“Jo” or “Jopey”) Erwin, 83, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Meadow View Health in Harrisonville following a lengthy illness. Jo was born August 24, 1939 in a farmhouse near Richards, MO to Ross and Alvaretta (Richmond) Rowland. She was married on August 24, 2001 in Nevada, MO to Bill Erwin, Sr. and he preceded her in death on October 6, 2020.

Jo spent most of her life in Vernon County. She graduated from Metz High School, where she played basketball, was a cheerleader, and was in the band. She worked as a pharmacist’s assistant at the Community Pharmacy in Nevada, and later at 3M until she retired in 1997 to care for her mother. Jo was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs going all the way back to the days of Len Dawson. She attended games at Arrowhead into her 70’s.

Jo is survived by her son, Paul Hood (Vanessa), Parkville, MO; eight stepchildren: Bill Erwin, Jr. (Janet), Nevada, Jim Erwin (Vickie), Richards, Saundra Wehmeyer, Nevada, Rick Erwin (Ronda), Nevada, Russ Erwin (Marian), Nevada, Sue Renwick (Patrick), Nevada, Sally Phipps (John), Waxahachie, TX, and Sherry Shaw, Nevada; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Rowland, Nevada, and Ronald Rowland, Springfield, MO; a sister, Louise “Polly” Rowland, Nevada; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Charlene Jo Hood; two sisters, Loraine Deming, and Lois Reeder; and a niece, Carol Sue Casey.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Fasken Cemetery in Carthage, MO with Paul Hood officiating.

Memorials are suggested in her name to the donor’s choice c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Obituary - Ronald Lee Attebury

Ronald Lee Attebury, 61, Sheldon, MO passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 at his home in Sheldon. The youngest of six children, Ron was born March 19, 1962 in Kansas City, MO to James A. and Maxine (Friedli) Attebury.

Ron grew up in Kansas City and attended school there. He joined the family business at a young age. His first marriage, Deborah Stokes, brought him a daughter, Misty, that he continued to love until the day he died. Ron later married Katherine, the love of his life, and he gained another daughter, Emma. Many grandchildren and a great grandchild followed. Ron was a father figure to many nieces and nephews. 

He loved them all unconditionally and he loved to tease and joke with them all. Ron was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, NASCAR, wrestling, and vintage Hot Rods.

Ron was big man with a bigger heart. His family is left with an even bigger void without him.

Ron is survived by his wife, Katherine, of the home; two daughters, Misty Dawn Lawson (John) Belton, MO, and Emma Copenhaver (Mike), El Dorado Springs, MO; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, James Attebury, Crocker, MO, and Chuck Attebury (Debbie), Collins, MO; two sisters, Cindy Miller (Kurt), El Dorado Springs, MO, and Starla Paul, Peculiar, MO; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Arthur Attebury.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
