Mega Millions Millionaire has sleepless night following big win..

Sleepless nights after big win in Henry County..

A Mega Millions player in Henry County who won a $1 million prize in the Aug. 4 drawing had difficulty falling asleep after her big win.

“I only got two hours of sleep!” the winner laughed.

She explained it was late when she checked the winning numbers, but she was wide awake after realizing her ticket matched all five of the white-ball numbers drawn to win a $1 million “Match 5” prize.

The numbers drawn that night were 11, 30, 45, 52 and 56, with a Mega Ball number of 20. “I screamed for my husband to triple check,” she recalled.

The winning ticket was purchased at Buck Stop, 93 E. Highway 7, in Clinton. She shared plans to use some of the winnings for retirement.

Players who purchased tickets in Henry County in FY22 won more than $3.5 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $345,000 in commissions and bonuses in FY22, and education programs received more than $457,000 in appropriated Lottery proceeds.

Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is estimated at $20 million. Because the jackpot was hit Tuesday night, the “Jackpot Reset” promotion is currently activated – giving players who buy three Mega Millions plays on a single ticket a free $2 Mega Millions ticket.

Obituary - Rita Corrine Burns

Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also praises her. Rita Corrine Burns, 82, of Hume, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Rita was born on January 20th, 1941, second child to David Austin and Anna Frances Brooks. Rita grew up south of Hume on the farm with her 3 sisters and 2 brothers, Norann, Mildred, Gene, Helen and Frank.

She began her schooling in a one room schoolhouse, Brush College, and completed her schooling at Hume R 8. After graduation she moved to Kansas City to work and live with Norann. It was in KC that she met and married Kenneth Burns on April 11th, 1959, they were married 64 years. In the early years of their marriage Rita worked outside of the home but as their family grew she became a keeper at home and this is where she thrived. She excelled in cooking, housekeeping, gardening, canning, sewing, and was an excellent wife and mother to her 4 boys, Ken, Troy, Brett and David. The boys knew that they could always depend on their mom to help them with school projects, homework, chores & yard work. Rita was multi-talented and could do just about anything she put her mind to. She was especially gifted in cake decorating and made beautiful wedding cakes for each of her son's weddings, and some of her grandchildren’s weddings as well as many nieces and nephews and other friends and family. In the 1970’s Kenneth and Rita bought their 80 acre farm just south of Hume, MO.

For many years Rita managed two households as they would travel back and forth from the city each weekend and spend most of the summer at the farm. She was an incredibly hard worker and kept her yard, garden and flower beds impeccable. On top of all her duties as a wife and mom she planted a large strawberry patch and sold strawberries so that she could buy new oak cabinets for her kitchen. She was very entrepreneurial with her cake decorating business and strawberry business! Rita was a great “boy” mom and enjoyed working and spending time with her boys. She taught them much by her example of working hard without complaining and always doing things with a smile. Rita was diagnosed with chronic leukemia in the 1990’s but she fought it well with a great attitude and it hardly slowed her down!

Rita was gifted at hospitality and always enjoyed serving guests that would come and serve their favorite desserts. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her family, friends, children and grandchildren and could be quite competitive but always with a smile and a laugh.

Most importantly Rita was a follower of Jesus Christ, she had saving faith in Him and enjoyed being active in church as long as it was possible for her to attend. Alzheimer’s slowly took Rita away from us, we have lost her little by little but she maintained a happy attitude and had a contagious smile until the end of her life on earth. We do not grieve like people with no hope because we know that Rita is rejoicing in God, His glory, His grace and His beauty, experiencing the delights and wonders of Heaven with a renewed mind. Charm is deceitful and beauty is fleeting but a woman that fears the Lord will be praised.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gene and sister Norann. She leaves behind for now her husband Kenneth, sons Ken, Troy, Brett and David and their wives, 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Hume Christian Church, 9413 Southwest 4th Street, Hume, MO 64752. Services are under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Alzheimer's Association or the Gideons International, St. Clair County Camp. These donations may be left in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com.

Cheryl Ann Kenney is still missing from Nevada

On the night of February 27, 1991, Cheryl Ann Kenney was working a shift at the Quality Convenience Store located on Business Highway 71 in Nevada, Missouri. Cheryl’s shift usually lasted until midnight, however it was reportedly a slow night, so evidently Cheryl made the decision to close the store early.

According to Cheryl’s time card, she clocked out at 10:00 pm, and by 10:17 pm, had set the store alarm. Reports state that the store’s janitor left a few minutes prior to Cheryl.

The janitor later stated that when he left, there were no customer cars left in the parking lot, however, there was a male customer inside the store. Although the janitor stated he did not recognize the man, that would not necessarily be unusual, as there were several motels within walking distance of the store. The customer has never been identified.

Due to store policy and closing procedures, it is unlikely that there would be anyone inside the store when Cheryl set the alarm and exited. It was also against store policy to allow anyone inside after closing.

Cheryl never arrived home that night to her husband and two children. When Cheryl was reported missing, authorities initially acted as if Cheryl may have left of her own accord.

Cheryl’s mother had recently died and she was having a difficult time dealing with the loss. However, it is reported that at the time of her disappearance, Cheryl was only carrying around six dollars on her person.

Additionally, it would have been out of character for her to abandon her husband, her two children and her father, who was ill. Cheryl’s White Chevrolet was also found abandoned in the store parking lot.
Several days later, two witnesses in the area of the store read of Cheryl’s disappearance in a newspaper. They contacted the police stating that they had heard a woman screaming at the time Cheryl would have been leaving the store. Cheryl has never been seen or heard from since.

Cheryl Ann Kenney was born on July 8, 1960, and was 30 years old at the time of her disappearance. If Cheryl is alive, she would be around 62 years old today.

Cheryl is a Caucasian female with light brown hair and green eyes. Cheryl’s hair was bleached blonde at the tips at the time of her disappearance. Cheryl is around 5’6” in height, and weighed around 117 lbs. at the time she went missing.

Cheryl has a distinctive tooth pattern. Cheryl has mole removal scars on her chest and upper left arm, and a scar on her wrist. She wears eyeglasses with tan frames.

At the time of her disappearance, Cheryl was reported to be wearing a blue pullover sweatshirt, a blue denim jacket, blue jeans and white L.A. Gear sneakers.

If you have any information regarding Cheryl Ann Kenney’s whereabouts or disappearance, you are encouraged to call the Nevada, Missouri Police Department at (417)-448-2710 or the Missouri State Highway Patrol at (866) 362-6422.
