Obituary - Steven W. Sternadel

Steven Wayne Sternadel of Warsaw, MO, went home to be with our loving Lord on Monday, October 30, 2023. Steven was born on September 25, 1958 in Topeka, Kansas to John and Betty (Wilmot) Sternadel.

Steven graduated from Hickman Mills High School in Kansas City, MO in 1977. He liked to take shop and leave school early to work at General Motors as a teenager with his dad.

In 1972, he started coming down for the summers with his parents to the lake cabin in Warsaw. In 1979, he moved to Warsaw while still driving to General Motors everyday with his dad, until 1988. He was an avid classic car and motorcycle collector and trader. He took pride in being one of the youngest to have cool, paid off cars because of his hard work. His favorite car was an olive green 1970 Chevelle. In 1988, he received his CDL and traveled to different states for deliveries, as well as took part in Warsaw’s volunteer fire department .
In 1992, he met the love of his life and just celebrated their 30 year anniversary, Ellon (Wade) Sternadel and married her in less than a year on September 25, 1993. He took on the responsibility of being a father of two little girls that came with the marriage, never being a father before but he dove head in. In a short 5 years later, he had been blessed with 2 more daughters and a son. All 5 children have been his pride- Lana Thompson (Shawn Thompson) of Warsaw, Renee Nichols (Daniel Nichols) of Columbia, Ashley Bradshaw (Clayton Bradshaw) of Cole Camp, Curtis Sternadel (Alissa Sternadel) of LaMonte, and Shelby Lindsey (Mikel Lindsey) of Marshall. He never missed a sporting event or school activity, even if he had to take off work early. He made it his mission to dedicate his life to being the best father that he could be, like he had from his father. He was the best and funniest Papa to his 9 grandchildren, Gracelyn Bradshaw, Dominic Nichols, Hunter Haugen, Eli Lindsey, Stella Lindsey, Dawn Nichols, Luna Thompson, Mia Sternadel, Serenity Lindsey.

In 2003, he became a machinist in the factory industry and spent most of his time at Waterloo Industries in Sedalia. In 2010, he decided to be baptized with his children at the Stover Baptist Church, after years of living and trusting God with his life. He retired from the workforce in 2018, to spend more time with his family and help take care of his parents. Apart from his wife, children and his mother Betty, he loved his chihuahua, Patches. Steven made it his mission not to only love his children but to instill the love of Christ into their lives, starting at a young age. He would read scripture out of the Bible every night before bed, instead of children’s books.

Steven loved to fish with his son early in the mornings and listen to the police scanner mainly to hear his daughter dispatch. He also took pride in cleaning and waxing his generational Ford trucks. He loved anything weather and took it upon himself to be the personal family weatherman. He was known for supporting Law Enforcement and the Military. He would pay for any officer’s meal when he could and thanked a Veteran often.

Steven would want to leave you with this, tell your children that you are proud of them often, it makes a difference. Appreciate the slow drives in the early mornings and don’t hurry too fast. Take the time to listen to the thunderstorms and love Christ as your friend. Stick up for the small guy, protect your family, and be prepared for anything.

Family suggests memorial donations to be made in Steven’s memory to Benton County Sheriff’s Foundation, c/o Reser Funeral Home, PO Box 910, Warsaw MO 65355.

Young hunters harvest 11,118 deer during early youth portion of firearms deer season

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows that young hunters ages 6 through 15 harvested 11,118 deer during Missouri’s early youth portion of the 2023 deer hunting season, Oct. 28 and 29.

Top counties were Franklin with 258 deer harvested, Osage with 224, and Texas with 209. Of the deer harvested, 6,857 were antlered bucks, 3,410 were does, and 851 were button bucks.

Get more harvest information on the 2023 early youth portion at extra.mdc.mo.gov/widgets/harvest_table/.

Youth hunters harvested 13,877 during last year’s early youth portion. Get more information on past seasons at mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer/deer-reports/deer-harvest-summaries.

“Although the rain this past weekend was desperately needed given how dry it’s been this year throughout much of the state, it did put a damper on the early youth portion,” said MDC’s Cervid Program Supervisor Jason Isabelle.

Isabelle noted that the below average temperatures were conducive to good deer movement, but the combination of cooler temperatures and rainy conditions that persisted throughout much of the weekend likely reduced the amount of time many young hunters were able to spend afield.

Archery deer hunting continues through Nov. 10 and resumes Nov. 22 through Jan. 15, 2024. The November portion of firearms deer season runs Nov. 11-21 followed by the CWD portion, which is open in CWD Management Zone counties, Nov. 22-26. The late youth portion runs Nov. 24-26. The late antlerless portion of firearms deer season runs Dec. 2-10 in open counties and the alternative methods portion will occur Dec. 23 through Jan. 2, 2024.

Get more information on Missouri deer hunting from MDC’s 2023 Fall Deer and Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information booklet, available where hunting permits are sold and online at mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer.

Butler Fire Department conducts search and rescue training

From the office of the Fire Chief on Monday October 30 at 6:30 PM the Butler fire department conducted a multiple departments exercise which included the Butler fire department the Butler police department and the Bates County ambulance service.

The exercise took place on the Kyle Smith property. There was a 14-year-old Missing child, with autism and the departments all got together a command post was set up and performed search and rescue procedures in the dark, the child was located about 45 minutes after she was reported missing this is the kind of training it takes to be able to work with other departments in a multitask operation Everyone learns from this type of training to be able to fine-tune in the event of a real search and rescue operation and with that being said, these departments will be better trained and ready to respond in a true emergency.

A big thank you to the Butler police department and the Bates County EMS for working with the Butler fire department to bring together team worked that got the tasks accomplished in a minimum amount of time and everyone one went home safe.
