Rich Hill man escapes injury in Bates County crash

On Sunday morning November 5th around 12:35 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Business 49 Ramp at I-49.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2010 Dodge Avenger driven by 33 year old George W. Gilkey of Rich Hill, Missouri ran off the right side of the roadway, the vehicle impacted the ground two times before coming to rest.

Mr. Gilkey sustained minor injuries and he refused medical treatment at the scene of this accident.

George W. Gilkey received two citations as a result of this accident 1.) Driving While Intoxicated -Prior Offender 2.) Failure to drive within a single lane.

Nevada woman killed in Barton County crash

On Thursday November 2nd around 9:41 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Barton County along with Barton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri Highway 43 around 2 miles east of Liberal.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a eastbound 2008 Toyota RAV4 driven by 67 year old Diana M. Shopper of Nevada, Missouri failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled into the path of a southbound 2010 Ford F-150 driven by 25 year old Casey M. Lewis of Osceola.

Diana M. Shopper was pronounced deceased at the scene of this accident and she was transported to Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar.

This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 121st fatality of the year 2023.

Norris a state champion in cross country

We would like to congratulate Harrisonville High School Junior Kayleigh Norris who won the Class 4 Cross Country State Championship. 

She put it all out there at today’s race, winning by 21 seconds, with a time of 18:07!

Clinton woman arrested on Texas warrants

On November 4th around 1:00 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County arrested 27 year old Paige E. Booth of Clinton, Missouri.

She was arrested on the following charges 1.) Felony Cooke County Texas Warrant - Probation violation for burglary 2.) Felony Denton County Texas Warrant - Probation violation for fraud.

Paige E. Booth was booked into the Henry County Jail in Clinton and she is currently being held on no bond.

Obituary - Robert "Bob" Elden McGowen

Robert "Bob" Elden McGowen, 83, of Harrisonville, MO, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at his home. Masonic Services will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with the funeral service starting immediately after at 11:15 AM. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment to follow in Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, MO.

Bob was born March 8, 1940 to Willard Robert and Lela May (Davis) McGowen in Kansas City, MO. He was a lifelong Harrisonville resident, attended Rodman Rural School # 128, and graduated from Harrisonville High School with the Class of 1958. Bob was united in marriage to Rita Rose Stone on October 19, 1958 at the home of Rev. Joe Brewster in Harrisonville. He worked at Western Electric and AT&T as a machine setter, retiring after 35 years. Bob was a 57-year member of Cass Masonic Lodge #147 in Harrisonville.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Rita McGowen, of the home; his daughters: Terrie Slocum and husband, Mark, of Lee's Summit, MO; and Victoria McGowen, of Harrisonville, MO; 5 grandchildren: Ashley, Carley, Matthew, Keeley and Lake; 3 great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard McGowen, of Harrisonville, MO; and his sisters: Mary Thompson, of Harrisonville, and Margaret Coons, of Chariton, Iowa.

Appleton City loses heartbreaker to Drexel 88-80

A heartbreaking loss for our Appleton City Bulldogs tonight as they fall to Drexel 88-80 in a fantastic game.

To the coaches and players: Thank you for an amazing season. We appreciate your hard work and dedication as you battled each and every down this season. Your grit, tenacity, and commitment were evident as you played your hearts out each night. With each game, you showed improvement and worked hard to play together as a team.

To our Seniors: Thank you for your dedication and leadership both on and off the field. You played each game with the heart of a Bulldog and showed us what Bulldog Pride is all about. You will be missed greatly.
