Historic night for Butler Senior Carter Trumbore

The Bears Den was buzzing as the Butler Bears looked to get back on track after a couple of cold outings coming off of Christmas break. The Holden Eagles made the trip to the Bears Den with a record of 1-11 to square off against the 7-4 Bears.

The Bears nearly shut-out the Eagles in the first quarter, outscoring them 18-4 after one. The Bears kept their foot on the accelerator, with stout defense leading to easy offense. Butler scored 26 points on 16 Eagles turnovers. The Bears shot lights out for the night, hitting 57 percent of the their field goals, 50 percent from deep, and 88 percent from the line.

The Bears defense, coupled with their high percentage shooting, led to a blow-out victory with a final of 75-32.

The story of the night was Senior Carter Trumbore, who broke not one, but TWO of the Butler career records. Trumbore came into tonight with 222 career steals, the all-time record was held by Kaleb Kauffman with 225. Trumbore ended the night with 5 steals, surpassing Kauffman and having 227, and counting.

The all-time Butler High School career points record was held by Zach Burch with 1,866. Coming into the night Trumbore had 1,833 on his career, needing 33 points to tie the record and 34 to break it. Early in the 4th quarter Trumbore hit a 3 that propelled him to 36 points on the night, and solidified his place in the Butler High School record books.

Trumbore led all scoring on the night with 36 points, 5 steals, 5 rebounds and he was perfect from the free throw line, going 8-8. Jake Chandler for the Bears tallied 12 points with 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Brandon Hammet was the 3rd Bear in double figures with 10 points of his own to go along with 6 boards. Kolby Hill led the Eagles with 16 points.

Obituary - Gene Humbird

Gene Humbird, 62, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away in his home on January 9th, 2024. Visitation services will be held on Tuesday, January 16th from 10am – 12pm at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

Gene was born November 20th, 1961 in Kansas City, Missouri to his loving parents Ronnie Humbird and Mary Richardson. He grew up along side his 3 younger brothers, Randy (Holly) Humbird, Rickie Humbird, and Rusty Humbird. They enjoyed fishing, hunting, and sports. Gene followed in his father’s footsteps and worked in Sod most of his life. He met many amazing friends along the way and fell in love with Mardi at a very young age.

They were high school sweethearts who got married on October 26th, 1986, and would go on to have their two children, Crystal (Mike) Regan and Kyle (Amanda) Humbird. Gene was so unbelievably talented in so many ways. He was an amazing artist, carpenter, guitarist, and all-around humble guy who would give you the shirt off his back and never ask for anything in return. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Loved rock music, both listening to and playing it with his many bands over the years.

He loved playing pool with his late wife Mardi, family, and friends. Even if Mardi would win most of the time. He enjoyed playing golf with his son, brothers, and friends. Would never turn down a chance to go fishing with his family. He would never stay in just one place and would walk the entire way around any good fishing hole. There are so many things my dad loved but his grandson Gabe and his family were always top of the list!

This is why it’s with a heavy heart we say goodbye to such an amazing Son, Brother, Father, Pop-Pop, and friend. Rest easy with your love Mardi as you two are reunited once again. We must remember this isn’t goodbye, it’s until we meet again.

Gene was survived by his parents, Mary Richardson, and Ronnie (Barbara) Humbird. His brothers, Randy (Holly) Humbird, Richie Humbird and Rusty Humbird. His two children, Crystal (Mike) Regan and Kyle (Amanda) Humbird. His grandson Gabe Regan. Many adored Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and more friends and adopted family than you can count.

Busy time for the Adrian Fire Department

The Adrian Fire crews started early and ended late on Tuesday as the weather caused several incidents.

Adrian Fire was dispatched at 04:07 AM to a medical call in the city limits. At 04:36 AM the department was dispatched for a reported barn on fire northeast of Adrian.

The barn was reported to already be on the ground and no other structures in danger. We responded three trucks to the scene and after sizing up the incident, it was decided that no action would be taken.

The department continued throughout the day and evening responding on additional medical assistance calls and car accidents with our last call taking place at approximately 7:45 PM.

We are happy to report that the car accidents that we worked, all consisted of slide offs due to slick road conditions and were non injury accidents.
