Blackhawks sweep tigers tonight in Basketball action

The Adrian Blackhawks travel to South Bates County to take on the Rich Hill Tigers. The ladies kicked off the night for both teams. In a low-scoring contest, Adrian clung to a one possession lead after the opening quarter with 8-6 showing on the scoreboard. In the second quarter, the Lady Tigers were held to a mere 3 points, while the Lady Blackhawks stayed consistent and put another 8, taking a 16-9 advantage into the intermission.

In the 3rd, Rich Hill matched their 1st quarter score, adding another 6 to their tally; while Adrian once again stayed steady scoring yet another 8 points, bringing the score to 24-15 as we headed into the fourth and final quarter. In the fourth, the Lady Blackhawks recorded 9 points, the Lady Tigers would match Adrian, scoring 9 of their own. The final would see the Lady Blackhawks victorious with a final of 33-24.

Riley Essenpries of the Lady Blackhawks would lead all scores for the game with 15 points. Maysi Miller led the Lady Tigers with 9.

Up next was a highly anticipated rematch between the Tigers and Blackhawks. The Tigers came into the contest with an 11-2 record, with one of their only 2 losses coming at the hands of the Blackhawks in an overtime thriller back in the Butler Tournament. The Tigers would look to even the match up, while the Blackhawks would seek to add to their 6 game winning streak and sweep the Tigers.

The main event matchup did not disappoint, as the Tigers and Blackhawks did indeed put on a show. It was a tightly contested game throughout, but the Blackhawks were able to maintain a narrow advantage throughout.

The Tigers were able to force some late game turnovers, and drill a couple of last minute 3s, but Adrian sunk a pair of clutch free throws to be able hand the Tigers their 3rd loss on the season. When the final buzzer sounded, the Blackhawks were able to squeak out a 64-62 victory, and sweep the the Tigers on the season.

BCMH has been awarded the Rural Hospital Medical Equipment and Supplies Grant

In the BCMH Laboratory with Emily Gilkey (left), Greg Weaver, CEO and Lab Director Joani Boleyn to share GOOD NEWS. BCMH has been awarded the Rural Hospital Medical Equipment and Supplies Grant from the Patterson Family Foundation .

The $50,000 grant will be used to update our lab's hematology analyzer. Our deepest thanks to the Patterson Family Foundation and to BCMH staff members who worked on this effort, with a special shout out to Emily for writing the grant on our hospital's behalf.

The Sysmex XN hematology analyzer performs a Complete Blood Count (CBC), a test that Joani Boleyn, MLS (ASCP)CM says is the highest volume test for their department at over 12,000 performed each year. The CBC includes results for red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, white blood cell total and differential.

"Many health care decisions are impacted by the results of a patient’s CBC," Joani said. "The test may be used as part of a routine checkup or to investigate symptoms such as fever, fatigue, weakness, and many others. Chronic conditions such as anemia and leukemias may also be monitored by this test.”

Access to safe and reliable health care is the foundation of community well-being, and the Patterson Family Foundation seeks to help nonprofit rural hospitals provide the best care and services for their communities. The goal of the Rural Hospital Medical Equipment and Supplies Grant is to assist providers in purchasing needed equipment and supplies to care for patients within their hospitals and communities.

Bates County Memorial Hospital met the criteria to apply for the grant due to its rural, nonprofit status and geographical position within the grant guidelines. BCMH thanks the Patterson Family Foundation for awarding the hospital this grant and for dedicating their efforts to helping rural communities.
