Student Spotlight Kate Bunch
Before vet school, Kate worked in a variety of vet clinics. There, she made great connections and learned so much! This variety allowed Kate to experience everything from exotics to equine. One of the clinics she worked for rehabilitated some wildlife, which exposed Kate to wild birds, opossums, raccoons, and her all-time favorite, a baby beaver!
Kate moved to Columbia in the summer of 2022 to work at an emergency clinic. There, she learned a lot about emergency medicine. Her heart missed the family atmosphere of a smaller practice, so she started working for a newly opened, family-owned mixed practice clinic over by Centralia.
Kate has a younger brother who is also attending Mizzou but is working on a Master’s Degree in accounting. Her parents reside in her hometown of Adrian, Missouri. Also, in her family, Kate has a French bulldog named Bear. Bear has gotten her through a lot, and she would not know what to do without his cuddles and toots!
During her free time, Kate likes to walk around the farmer’s market, and when she is not there, you can catch her doing some puzzles and binge-watching docuseries.
After graduation, Kate plans to join a mixed general practice, possibly at her previous clinic or back near her hometown. Kate is passionate about small ruminants and reproduction, so she hopes to incorporate those as well!

Obituary - Gregory "Ziggy" Lewis Edgman
Gregory "Ziggy" Lewis Edgman, age 70, La Cygne, Kansas passed away Friday, January 19, 2024. He was born in Orange County, California on November 21, 1953 the son of Lewis and Anna Blumenberg Edgman. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
He was a talented craftsman working as a Master Builder. Greg and his cherished companion, Cathy Wilson, had their first date over twenty-five years going to Area G of the Marais de Cygne Refuge and watched the eagles. He was fanatic about radio controlled cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Edgman, and a sister, Deborah Carano.
Greg is survived by his dear Cathy, two daughters, Jodi Edgman and Lindsey Stogsdill, two stepsons, Mark Wilson and Kyle Wilson, a brother, Doug Edgman, and two sisters, Rebecca Clay and Melissa Edgman, and eight grandchildren, Mercedes, Dakota, Kyle, Zoey, Henry, Haven, Maddie and Hope.

Funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Burial will be in the Star Valley Cemetery. | We would like you to join us in recognizing our staff for their dedication and hard work during the winter storm that moved through Bates County this weekend. We don't just want to recognize the men and women who were responding to the slide offs and answering calls for service in almost impossible road conditions but also other members of the Sheriff's Office like, Detention Officers and Dispatchers. While many businesses and government offices are able to close due to weather, the Sheriff's Office and first responders still have to maintain a level of functionality. We want to Thank the employees who, despite the weather conditions braved it to come to work. We still have to run the jail to include serving 200 meals, medical needs and daily functions of the jail. We still have to have employees to answer the 911 phones to dispatch law enforcement, fire departments and EMS. On this occasion, as some employees were not able to make it to work, other employees who were, volunteered to come in to help cover shifts and a few volunteered to work beyond their scheduled off time to make sure the needs of the Citizens of Bates County were met. "The Sheriff's Office runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Weekends and holidays, snow days and ice days. The men and women from the Maintenance Man, Dispatchers, Control Room, Detention Officers, Medical Staff, Food Service Staff, Deputies, Detectives and Command Staff are dedicated and realize that we have to run as normal as possible in some of the worst conditions." Says Sheriff Anderson. "Some of the employees worked 14 to 16 hours straight, some came in to work when they were supposed to be off and could have stayed home in the warmth. We are only as strong as our employees and Bates County is Blessed to have the best and most dedicated people working at the Sheriff's Office." |
Update: Name released in Cedar County death investigation
Through the use of Rapid DNA testing Missouri State Highway Patrol Investigators have identified the remains of the victim in this case as 27 year old Shaniya S. Haynes. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.

Obituary - Norma Lee Brewster
Norma was born April 24, 1929 in Bosworth, Missouri, a daughter of Carl and Gladys (Garren) Peppard. She was a 1947 graduate of Amsterdam, Missouri High School. Norma was united in marriage to Albert Lee Brewster on January 28, 1948 at the home of Rev. Joe Brewster near Freeman, MO. Norma worked at Western Electric-AT&T in Lee’s Summit, MO for many years before retiring in 1988. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Harrisonville.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents; her brother, Arlin Peppard; sister-in-law, Norma Peppard; infant grandson, Lawrence Stafford, III; grandson, Landon Stafford; and son-in-law, Melvin Taylor. She is survived by two sons, Larry (Rhonda) Brewster, Bates City, MO, and Gary (Sherry) Brewster, Urich, MO; three daughters, Carolyn (Ron) Russ, Canby, Oregon, Vicki Taylor, Harrisonville, and Roberta Stafford, Harrisonville; two brothers-in-law, Earl Brewster (Jeannie), Adrian, MO and Asa Bennett, Harrisonville; two sisters-in-law, Irene Welliver, Amoret, MO and Judy Brewster, Overland Park, KS; ten grandchildren: Morgan (Brian) Hiller, Karrie (Ryan) Grimes, Grant (Amy) Russ, Jill Russ, Tyler (Jen) Russ, Jamie (Tonya) Taylor, Daniel (Carrie) Taylor, Kristi (John) Diamond, Jeremy Stafford, and Sarah (Todd) Eppert; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary - Virginia "Ginger" Rose Bure
Ginger was born to Dewey and Lovilla (Williams) McDaniel of Kansas City, MO, on March 14, 1933, Ginger made her appearance in the McDaniel family as the seventh child of nine children. She made her profession of faith as a young teen and never abandon her faith of Christ. Her service to Jesus was the center of her earthly life. Ginger graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City, MO, and Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO, with an elementary education degree. She and the love of her life, Robert Bure, moved to Archie, MO, where they spent their lives investing in the lives of students as teachers and coach. Ginger was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and loyal friend with a witty sense of humor. She touched countless lives with her spiritual gifts of service, teaching, hospitality through the Archie Baptist Church.
As a devoted wife and ardent cheerleader of Bob’s coaching career, she spent countless nights in the bleachers, on a bus, running the concession stand, or at the gate greeting fans for the evening game. Her ardent support carried on with cheering for her sons in their own sports careers and school events. She was very proud of the men they become. She loved bragging to anyone who would listen about her five granddaughters. They were her pride and joy.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; six of her siblings; and great-granddaughter, Palmer Joan Rose Field. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Cipolla of Leawood, KS; her brother, Russ McDaniel of Keithville, LA; her husband of 69 years, Robert (Bob) Bure; son, Richard Bure, and his wife, Paula, of Longview, TX; son, Burt Bure, and his wife, Jeanna, of Fulshear, TX; granddaughters: Andrea and Tanner Field of Conroe, TX; Allison and Ikey Eason of Tyler, TX; Erin Bure of Nacogdoches, TX; Brooke and Victor Sanchez of San Antonio, TX; and Taylor Bure and Joel Andrepont of Grenoble, France; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Parkview on Hollybrook and Chambers Hospice Care for their tender, loving care of Ginger in her final earthly years. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
