Sophomore Brandon Hammett collected four hits in five at bats, as Butler defeated El Dorado Springs tonight in baseball

Sophomore Brandon Hammett collected four hits in five at bats, as the Butler bears defeated El Dorado Springs in baseball 13-1 on Monday. 

Hammett singled in the second inning, singled in the seventh inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

Senior pitcher Maddox Fennewald struck out 11 batters on the day. The starting pitcher also surrendered four hits and one run over six and one-third innings while walking two.

Butler got on the board in the top of the first inning after a error by El Dorado Springs was committed. Hammett scored after tagging up, and sophomore Cohen Wilson singled, each scoring one run.

A single by Hammett extended the bears lead 4-1 in the top of the second inning.

The bears scored seven runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore Jake Chandler tripled, scoring two runs, Hammett singled, scoring one run, Junior Eli Cox doubled, scoring one run, Sophomore Breydan Heckadon was struck by a pitch, driving in a run and an error scored two runs.

Kandyn Ewert stepped in the mound first for 24 El Dorado Springs. The starting pitcher allowed seven hits and four runs (three earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking two. Cox appeared in relief for the bears.

Butler rallied 14 hits in the game. Hammett and Wilson each collected four hits for the Bears. Cox, Bryson Kash, Hammett, and Chandler each drove in two runs for the bears. Hammett and Chandler each stole multiple bases for the bears. The Butler bears stole five bases in the game.

Connor Bradley, Marcus Mossman, Cooler Greathouse, and Karson Burley each collected one hit for El Dorado Springs. Mossman led El Dorado Springs with one run batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-4 on the day.

The Bears will travel to Hermitage Hornets for their next game on Thursday.

Sonny Daniel Lewis, age 18 of Milo, Missouri died Friday, March 22, 2024. He was born December 29, 2005 to Joshua Bradley Lewis and Jessica Lynn Cooper in Fort Huron, Michigan.

Sonny is survived by his mother, Jessica Cooper and fiancé Tony Hughes of Milo, Missouri; his father, Josh Lewis of Kingston, Michigan; a son, Paxton Roberts of Michigan; a sister, Ivy Lewis of Belton, Missouri; a brother, Josh Janiszewski and wife Freedom of Milo, Missouri; and maternal grandparents, Harry and Debbie Swanson of Butler, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Vic and Lori Hergenreder and his fiancé, Melodie Roberts.

Shots fired at Belton hotel

On Friday, March 22nd, 2024, at around 7:25 a.m., the Belton Police Department received a call reporting gunshots inside a hotel located on E. Outer Road. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers were informed that the gunshots came from inside a room located on the second floor of the hotel's east wing. Two individuals were taken into custody, and the hotel was searched for possible victims. No gunshot victims were found.

The Criminal Investigations Team arrived shortly after to process the scene and interview witnesses. According to the evidence, four shots originated from inside the hotel room, in the bathroom. These shots exited the bathroom door, striking the hotel room door and a wall in the hallway. These shots were dangerous to the occupants of adjoining rooms as one bullet was located on the floor of an adjoining room, and another bullet was lodged in an exterior wall of the hotel.

One of the subjects taken into custody, Bradley Allan Jamierson, a 32-year-old resident of Grandview, Missouri, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and is being held on a $75,000 cash-only bond. It is important to note that the charges against Jamierson are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty or pleads guilty.

Duane L. Craig, age 85 of Butler , Missouri died Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born September 10, 1938 to J.B. and Nellie (Cline) Craig in Butler, Missouri.

Duane is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Whitehead and husband Mike of Carthage, Missouri and Kimberly Otter and Nick Daugherty of Butler, Missouri; two granddaughters, Alexandra Otter and Adrianne Whitehead; a great-granddaughter, Icelyn; a brother, Eldon Craig and wife Lynn of Shell City, Missouri; and a special friend, Ute´ Randolph of Grandview, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan Craig on June 3, 2017; and a son-in-law, Tom Bull.

Traffic Alert: Two vehicle accident on I-49 in Bates County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and the Butler Fire Department is on scene of a two vehicle accident on I-49 southbound at mile marker 127 south of Butler at this time.

The accident is said to involve a vehicle and semi truck and this is a non injury accident. If you must travel in this area please slow down and use caution.

Obituary - Marilyn M. Oehlschlaeger

Marilyn M. Oehlschlaeger, age 84, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Brookdale in Leawood, Kansas.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 310 Johnston Pkwy., Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Marilyn will then be laid to rest next to her late husband at Belton Cemetery.

Mrs. Oehlschlaeger was born on January 16, 1940 in Concordia, Missouri to Gustave and Martha Kueck. Marilyn is a graduate from Concordia High School and Central Missouri State University-Warrensburg, Missouri. Former Business Teacher of Belton High School and retired Hickman Mills High School Business Teacher. She was a woman of Lutheran faith and member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Beta Sigma Phi, Missouri Retired School Teachers, and Loosely Knit sewing club. She loved to travel with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Martha Kueck; husband, Ken; two sisters and brothers in law, Evelyn and C.R. Deininger, and Nola and Bill Fischer.

Survivors include two daughters, Kara and Dr. George Sehl III and Krista and Dr. Brian Ware; six grandchildren, George Sehl IV, Mike Sehl, Steve Sehl, Blake Ware, Trevor Ware, and Klarissa and Dayton Steffeny; two great grandchildren, Brooks and Declan Ware; six nieces; five nephews; five great nieces; five great nephews; three great-great nieces; five great-great nephews; and brother and sister in law Don and Mary Ann Oehlschlaeger.
