Long brothers putting in work on the wrestling mats

We would like to congratulate the Long brothers of Butler High School. Today Kellen (Pictured on the right) won the 16u 157 pounds freestyle state wrestling championship, qualified for National Freestyle Dual wrestling team for Missouri and qualified for nationals at Fargo, North Dakota!

Little brother Hunter (Pictured on the left) won 2nd place in the 14u and qualified for the National Missouri freestyle dual wrestling team.

Such a great accomplishment for these brothers, They always represent the community and the sport of wrestling with much respect and class. Kellen and Hunter are the sons of Dale and Lindsey Long.

Nadja Gardner & Margaret Porter had the opportunity to complete the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education sponsored Central Region Teacher Academy this year!

The program enriches teachers’ knowledge through expert presentations, networking & research. Congratulations to these two wonderful teachers who continue to grow as professionals!

Obituary - Emily Louise Martin

Emily Louise Martin, age 27, resident of Fort Scott, KS died Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 8th, at the Community Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday May 7th at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Scott High School Music Department and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S. Main St., Fort Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted online at cheneywitt.com.

Dayringer signs to play football at Graceland University

Butler Lady Bears Softball Team Defeats Cole Camp Lady Bluebirds 11-2 in First Round of Districts

Butler Lady Bears Softball Defeats Cole Camp Lady Bluebirds On Back Of Clutch Display From Freshman Kylee Dubray..

Butler Freshman Kylee Dubray drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Lady Bears past the Cole Camp Lady Bluebirds 11-2 on Friday in the first round of district play.

Dubray tripled in the third scoring two, hit a home run to center field in the seventh scoring two, and singled in the first scoring one. Dubray struck out 12 batters on the day. 

She also gave up one hit and two runs over seven innings while walking eight. Butler opened the scoring in the first after Dubray singled, scoring one run.

The Lady Bears added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Dubray tripled, scoring two runs, and Senior Haven Humphrey grounded out, scoring one run. Butler scored two runs in the top of the seventh on a home run to center field by Dubray.

Emma Thayer stepped in the circle first for Lady Bluebirds. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and 11 runs (seven earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking two. 

Kate Harrison went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Cole Camp Varsity Bluebirds in hits. Cole Camp Varsity Bluebirds had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Thayer and Taylor Loganbill led the team with two free passes each. Thayer stole two bases.

Butler will await the winner of a game being played tonight to determine who they will play next!











 


Thank You Cass County Elks Lodge #2791

Last night, Cass County Elks Lodge #2791 awarded the Sheriff's Office D.A.R.E. program $1,500 and D.A.R.E. camp $3,000.

This type of support is important in our efforts to make the community a better place. Sgt. Eddleman and Sheriff Weber accepted the checks on the Office's behalf.

“We appreciate this donation from the Elks Lodge. We are grateful for the partnership we’ve had with them for nearly two decades. This money will be used to positively impact the youth of Cass County and will help our Office make a great program even better,” said Sheriff Jeff Weber.
