On Monday, June 24, 2024, Nevada Police were called about a suspicious person in the 1000 block of S. Adams St. When speaking with the subject officers believed the individual was giving them false information.
Officers begin to investigate throughout the day attempting to follow up on his alleged identity. The investigating officer was able to determine the subject in question was actually a wanted fugitive with multiple warrants from the Kansas City area.
On June 25, 2024, Nevada Police were able to locate the subject in question in the 600 block of S. Pine St. A mobile fingerprint scanner was utilized to confirm the subject’s identity and he was taken into custody on the outstanding felony warrants from the Kansas City area.
During the arrest, it was also discovered that the individual was a non-compliant sex offender who had not been registered since 2020. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Jail for holding by Nevada Police.
The subject has been identified as follows: Errin A. Green, age 54 of Kansas City, Missouri.
On June 25, 2024, the following charges were filed against Errin A. Green through the Vernon County Associate Court:
One (1) Count of Fail to Register as a Sex Offender – Unclassified Felony
Green is being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash only bond.

Power Outages throughout the city of Butler
There is a current power outage in certain areas of the community. The high winds earlier this morning caused some damage. City crews are working to restore power.

Butler man arrested after domestic
On the evening of June 25th the Butler Police Department arrested 29 year old William Douglas Bedwell of Butler, Missouri.
Mr. Bedwell was arrested for 1.) Domestic Assault - 2nd Degree.
He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently being held on a 24 hour Investigative hold with charges pending.

Butler man arrested after traffic stop
On Tuesday June 25th around 7:12 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 55 year old Sean P. Smiley of Butler, Missouri.
Mr. Smiley was arrested for 1.) Felony possession of a controlled substance (X2) 2.) Felony unlawful use of a weapon 3.) Following too close 4.) Lane violation.
He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and later released.

Obituary - Harry “Junior” Shelton
Harry “Junior” Shelton, 75 of Drexel, Missouri passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Research Medical Center. A visitation will be held from 1:00-200pm, Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816-657-4400). Funeral services will follow at 2pm, Saturday June 29, 2024, also at the chapel. Burial will take place in Sharon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Cemetery. Harry “Junior” Jackson Shelton was born on April 20, 1949 in Archie, MO to Harry Shelton, Sr and Bessie Shelton. He attended Everett Grade School, went on to attend Drexel High School. Junior served his country in the US Army and completed two tours in Vietnam. He had a love of car races, he enjoyed watching the Chiefs, but he found his greatest joy on the open road driving. Junior had a strong dedication to his family and treasured their times together. He also loved helping people work on cars and was always cracking jokes, hoping to make you smile.
Junior was preceded in death my his parents; Harry and Bessie, siblings; Shirley Kunkel, Richard Shelton, Carl Shelton and Larry Shelton.
He is survived by his siblings; Dorothy Olmstead, of Independence, MO, Perry (Nancy) Shelton, of Harrisonville, MO, Vivian Holmes of Tuscan, Arizona, Jeanette (Rod) Martinette of Chattanooga Tennessee, son, Robert Travis Shelton, daughters; Jamie (John) Wirsig and their children Ben, Hayden & Reagan, and Dana Phillips of Overland Park and her kids Daryn, Alexandra, Briana, and Riley.

Elmer Paul Lee Thomas, age 4, the son of Sara Marie Thomas passed from this life on Sunday, June 23, 2024 in Nevada, MO. Elmer was born January 1, 2020 in Nevada, MO.
In addition to his mother, Sara, he is survived by his grandmother, Tammy Thomas, Nevada; grandfather, James Thomas, Nevada; great-grandparents, Michael Thomas, Coos Bay, OR, and Cathy and Danny Foster, Lockwood, MO; uncle, James Lee Thomas, Marshall, MO; several great aunts, uncles, and cousins.
