Creighton man seriously injured in Henry County motorcycle accident

On July 28th around 9:30 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a motorcycle accident on Route RA just north of CR SW 170 in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2005 Harley Davidson driven by 41 year old Robert J. McCubbin of Creighton, Missouri struck a racoon and overturned ejecting the driven.

Mr.McCubbin sustained serious injuries and was transported by Golden Valley EMS to Belton Regional Medical Center.

Kids fishing tournament a great success

On Saturday July 27th The City of Butler, The Butler Fire Department, The Butler Police Department, and The Bates County Elks Lodge hosted a kids fishing tournament at the Butler City Lake. Below you can find the results and a few photographs from this event.

Obituary - Gary Ray Minich

Gary Ray Minich, age 57 of Clinton, Missouri, formerly of Grain Valley, Missouri passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospice House of Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be Friday, August 2nd 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri. 

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the chapel. Burial will follow in the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions in Gary's name may be made to the Clinton Animal Rescue Endeavor (C.A.R.E.) or the Clinton Christian Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 24, 1967, Gary spent his childhood in Clinton, graduating from Clinton High School in 1985 with a passion for cars. He attended mechanic school in Wichita, Kansas, and worked in the automotive industry until he suffered his first stroke in 2015.

Gary was actively involved with the Lake Lotawana Boy Scouts Troop 251, serving as a leader for many years and spending many summers at the H Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. He was extremely proud that all three of his sons became Eagle Scouts.

Gary had a passion for food, particularly grilling and smoking meat, and he enjoyed participating in the American Royal BBQ Competition with friends, where they won several awards. He also loved spending time with his son Gavin, teaching him about cars, motors, and John Deere tractors, as well as sharing their love for Marvel movies.

In addition to his many hobbies, Gary worked as a Karaoke DJ for Carrieoke Productions for nearly 20 years in the Kansas City area, where he enjoyed singing and entertaining people.

Gary was a devoted son, taking exceptional care of his parents and maintaining a very close relationship with his mother, Sharon. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Gary is survived by his mother, Sharon Minich; his son, Gavin Minich; his stepsons, Garret Mayse (wife Mysti Mayse) and Grant Mayse (wife Shelby Mayse); and his former wife, Tiffani Sterling. He is also survived by his Uncle Jim and Aunt Judy Barnes of Clinton and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Minich.

Obituary - Hailey L. Slinger

It is with great sadness that the family of Hailey Leeann Slinger announces her passing. Hailey, age 22, left us in the early morning of July 21st, 2024, due to a tragic accident. Memorial services will be held 6:00 pm Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Memorial contributions may be made to Heart-n-Hand Ministries. Hailey was born to Julie (Hauenschild) and Shane Slinger in Kansas City, MO on February 6th, 2002. In her short life, Hailey was loved by many, who enjoyed her various talents, including singing and her love of music. She was known to have bright blue eyes, a vibrant smile, and a spirited attitude. She was outgoing and cared deeply about others. She was diagnosed at the age of 13 with mental health disorders, which greatly affected her daily life thereafter and indirectly led to her death. Hailey would often speak of how hard it was to live with these disorders and the many ups and downs she experienced. Her circle of support included her immediate family and beyond. This circle was there to support her in any way possible, celebrating the smallest of wins. Hailey enjoyed going to concerts and taking road trips, she even made a trip to Graceland to experience everything Elvis and to Myrtle Beach to spend a week with her dad. 

She loved cheering for her brother, Walker when he wrestled and spending time with her family. As Hailey was growing up, she looked forward to watching NASCAR races with Papa David and each rooting for their drivers. She, also, didn’t miss many episodes of WWE and went several times to see a live show. The anecdotes of Hailey’s life are endless, as she leaves different memories with each of her family and friends.

Hailey is survived by her mother Julie (Louis and son Louie) Hauenschild of Overland Park, KS; her father Shane Slinger of Rock Hill, SC; siblings, Walker Slinger and Krista Leonard both of Belton, MO, and Grace Holmes of Independence, MO; grandmother Peggy Short of Belton, MO; Danny (Amanda, children Aidan and Owen) Scrogham of Peculiar, MO and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by Grandfather David Short; Grandmother Linda Slinger; and Grandfather Robert Slinger.

Be Strong Like Owen!

The Harrisonville Police Department wanted to take a minute to share a little bit about one of our police department’s biggest fans, Owen. Owen and his family are members of our community and we wanted to bring some awareness to the battle they are fighting. 

Owen is a 6-year-old who has been diagnosed with a CNS Sarcoma, which is an extremely rare form of brain cancer. Since November of 2023, Owen has undergone multiple brain surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy, but the battle continues. 

We here at the Harrisonville Police Department and Harrisonville Fire Department hope to one day be as strong and brave as Owen. He is a warrior!

Area firefighters come together this weekend to train on extrication

Area firefighters came together this weekend to train on extrication. Thank you to MU for coming down and teaching.

Property damage at Nevada Golf Course

The City of Nevada Frank E Peters Golf Course had some vandalism on the course last night. We believe this happened after hours. A police report has been filed and any information that will help catch the individual/individuals that are responsible would be greatly appreciated.

Our grounds crew has worked very hard to give us a course to be proud of; it's a shame inconsiderate people would take that away. There is never at any time to be anyone on the course after hours
