Obituary - Roy Glenn Estes
Roy was born August 1, 1939, to Temple Estes & Emily (Griffith) Estes in their home in rural Bates County, MO. He grew up in the rural Adrian area & attended elementary school at Silverdale & Merwin; Miami High School as a freshman and sophomore, then Adrian High School where he graduated in 1957. He was active in FFA, basketball & football. After school Roy married the love of his life, Sharon Marie Greer on August 20, 1961. They moved away for 4 years while Roy was in the United States Air Force, but they returned to Adrian to raise their family. He worked for Bendix/Allied-Signal for 30 years & retired in 1989.
He spent many years raising his Limousin cattle & alfalfa hay on their farm. In "retirement" he worked driving school buses for Sharon until they both retired & began spending winters in Texas. He loved playing fast-pitch softball, spending time on the golf course & traveling across the country in their RV. He was a member of the Adrian VFW & attended the First Baptist Church of Adrian. He also cherished the time he could spend with family, especially spoiling his grandchildren & watching them grow up to become wonderful adults.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Pearl Hicks and Maxine Rullo; niece, Angie Crippen; and nephew, David Craig. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Estes of Adrian, MO; daughter, Vickie Estes of Peculiar, MO; son, Kyle (Julie) Estes of New Braunfels, TX; grandson, Dakotah (Cayla) Estes; granddaughter, Jocilyn Estes; sister, Ruby Lockard; brother-in-law, Wayne Greer; and various nieces & nephews.
Bates County Brawl Demolition Derby knocks it out of the park
To the Bates County Fair and the Bates County Fair Board, all I can say is Wow, what great people they have over there, To the guys that built the track and help get everything setup, you all knocked it out of the park, I want to thank each and every one of you, for giving R & S Derby Promotions the opportunity to come and put this show on for you all. We can't to see you all in 2025,
I also want to thank Razor Edge Productions for coming out and videoing and taking pictures last night at the Bates County Brawl, I hope to see you all back in 2025.

Obituary - Gerald L. “Jerry” Mildfelt
Survivors include his wife, Sue, of the home; four sons, Tom Mildfelt (Sandy) of Parsons, Kansas, Mike Mildfelt (Debi) of Winfield, Kansas, Dan Mildfelt (Lisa) of Chanute, Kansas, and Todd Mildfelt, (Kelli) of Baldwin, Kansas, and a daughter, LeAnne Wiles (Kevin) of Parsons, Kansas. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gene and Tom Mildfelt, and two sisters, Nellie Mitchum and Ruth Steichen.
Father Yancey Burgess will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 8th at the Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church (Kennedy Gym). The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 A.M. prior to the Mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary’s Building Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Burnt playground in Butler rebuilt..
On Friday June 28th the Butler Fire Department along with Butler Police Department responded to the call of a playground fire behind the Ohio Street Methodist Church. The fire destroyed the playground equipment and temporally had the playground shut down.
That was until this week when several crews worked hard to restore this equipment and build this playground back. The juvenile suspect was identified in this case however no further information was available.
Please don't destroy places like this its foolish! Be Better Humans!!

Obituary - Eric V. Lucas, Sr.
He was born April 6, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Hal Lucas, Sr., and Leona Lillian (Thomas) Lucas. He married Virginia Mae Andrews on August 9, 1969 in Kansas City, KS. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2023. Eric enjoyed working on cars.
Surviving are one son, Eric V. Lucas, Jr., (Kayla), Clinton, Mo.; two daughters, Rebecca Murphy (James), St. Joseph, Mo., and Michelle Malotte (Leonard), Windsor, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Colby Murphy, Erica Lucas, Chris Malotte, Dylan Murphy, Matthew Malotte, Eric Lucas, III, Amanda Ott, Daniel Malotte and Zachary Lucas; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Ronnie Lucas, Gary Lucas Halgene Lucas, Jr., and Russell Lucas. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Adair Village for their wonderful care of their dad and grandpa.
2nd Annual Kameron Williams Car Show in the books
Music, Food, Raffle Prizes, Bounce houses for the kids, power wheel races and some pretty cool cars could be seen Saturday morning/afternoon at Family Center Parking lot in Butler.
