Obituary - Jack D. Roark

Jack D. Roark, age 86, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born on February 4, 1938 in Benton County, Missouri the son of Arthur and Opal Roark. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Mace on July 9, 1955 in Clinton, Missouri. They would make their home in the Sunnyside Community.

Jack worked many years in construction, building homes in the Warsaw, Clinton and Sedalia areas. Jack loved to build cabinets, worked on older cars, especially the Model A’s and Model T’s. He attended Lakeside Chapel near his home and was the first pastor of the Full Gospel Chapel on Fowler Street in Cole Camp, Missouri.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Barbara J. Medlock and an infant son and two sisters.

He is survived by one son Charles Roark (Audrea) of Warsaw, two daughters, Darlene Johnson (Jim) of Warsaw, Kathy Medlock (Rev. Johnny) of Warsaw, 8 grandchildren, Darla (Chad) Ellis, Becki (Todd) Strouphauer, Wendi (Jeremy) Stetina, Elizabeth (Tony) Dominis, Michael (Rashell) Medlock, Matthew (Jaime) Medlock, Gabrielle (Ryan) Rains, Rachel Medlock, 21 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, one brother, Wayne Roark (Margaret) a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln, Missouri. A visitation will be held from an hour prior to the funeral service. Graveside services and interment will follow at the Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Benton County Cancer Fund, c/o Davis-Miller Funeral Home, P.O. Clinton man killed in Henry County crash

On Friday October 11th around 11:15 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Highway 13 South of NW 950th Road.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the north bound 2008 Ford Taurus driven by a 39 year old Michael F. Smith of Clinton, Missouri traveld off of the roadway, struck an embankment, a fence, and a utility pole, before overturning.

Mr. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Bradley Hadley Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

This is Troop A's of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 62nd of the year 2024. The next of kin has been notified. Next of kin notified.

Obituary - Margaret "Margy" A. Hoffman

Margaret “Margy” Anne Hoffman, age 84 of Kansas City, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, October 10, 2024 at her home. She was born September 1, 1940 to Carl Edward and Anna Elizabeth Oberweather Steward in Fort Scott, Kansas.

Margy is survived by her husband, Ron Hoffman of the home; two sons, Doug Hoffman and wife Audrey of Overland Park, Kansas and Mike Hoffman and wife Julie of Parkville, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Dallas, Maggie, Dawson, Alexa and husband Jake, Chase, Soren, Kylie and husband Norman and Chase; a great-grandson, Zayn; and a sister, Dorothy Simons and husband Pat of Butler, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and her father and mother-in-law, Paul and Margie Hoffman.

Mailbox vandalism in rural Adrian

This morning residents of rural Adrian woke up to their mailboxes being vandalized. While we recognize, this is a right of passage for feral teenagers. This is a crime in fact, a federal offense.

Juvenile hurt in Vernon County ATV accident

On Friday October 11th around 6:15 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a ATV accident on Rebel Road, four miles west of Milo, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a 1999 Polaris Sportsman, driven by a 15-year-old female juvenile of El Dorado Springs, Missouri overturned on a curve and ejected the driver,

Following the accident the juvenile was transported by life flight eagle to Cox South Hospital in Springfield with moderate injuries, the juvenile was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident.

Update: Press Release: Christian Hunter Thompson in Custody in Henry County

Sheriff Brown is pleased to announce that Christian Hunter Thompson, who fled from a scheduled court hearing at the Henry County Courthouse yesterday, is now in custody. "Following yesterday’s incident, our team worked swiftly and diligently to locate Mr. Thompson and bring him into custody without further incident," stated Sheriff Brown.

Immediately after Mr. Thompson’s escape, detectives from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office launched a full investigation, conducting interviews and searches both within Henry County and across county lines. Their efforts paid off today, October 11, 2024, just after 11 a.m., when the investigation led law enforcement to the 300 block of N. 5th Street in Clinton, where Mr. Thompson was believed to be hiding.

Upon arrival, Deputy Saulters, Detective Stutzman, Lt. Kubilus, Major Hills, and Sheriff Brown surrounded the residence and began negotiations with the occupants inside. After nearly one hour, Mr. Thompson cooperated with law enforcement and exited the residence peacefully. He was taken into custody without incident.

Lt. Kubilus, who oversees detective’s operations, remarked, "This outcome is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of our law enforcement team, and we thank everyone involved in helping to bring this matter to a safe and successful resolution."

Obituary - Karen Bevans

Karen Bevans, 69 of Butler, Missouri passed away October 8, 2024 at her home in Butler. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Monday, October 14, 2024 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009).

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Karen Janine Bevans, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, “Meme” and friend.

Karen was born on December 10, 1954, the daughter of Edward and Martha Anderson Bevans. Her vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Affectionately known as “The General” or “Meme”. Karen was a woman of strength and conviction, never afraid to speak her mind or stand her ground.

Her fierce love for her family was unparalleled; there was nothing she wouldn’t do to support her children and grandchildren. She took immense joy in spoiling her grandkids, always finding ways to shower them with affection and wisdom.

Karen had a passion for sharing her culinary talents and exceptional seamstress skills, often spending joyful afternoons teaching her grandchildren how to sew and cook. Her kitchen was a place of laughter and love, as she prepared meals that brought everyone together. Karen was also a perfect party planner and birthdays were special events, with attention to every detail.

In addition to her family life, Karen found fulfillment in her work at Short Street Tavern, where she created lasting connections and memories with those around her. She took great pride in being a devoted waitress and friend to everyone there.

Karen’s legacy of love, strength, and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Karen was preceded in death by her father, Edward Bevans; her mother, Martha Anderson; her sister, Michele Coigny; her brothers, John Wakeland and Johnathan Wakeland and her nephew

Blake Bevans. She is survived by her beloved children: Lee, along with his family—Melanie, Kody, Bailee, Addy, and Hallie; Elizabeth and her family—Daniel, Riggen, Raeth, Robey, Lena, and Orrin; Seth and his family—Rachael, Peyton, and Matilda; and Jedadiah, who is joined by Sara. Karen also leaves behind her devoted brothers, Mark and Douglas Bevans, and her nieces and nephews.
