By Cody Morris, Tailgate TV

The Adrian Blackhawks partook in the Holden State Farm Classic last week. For their first game of the Classic, the Blackhawks sward off against the 7-5 Odessa Bulldogs.

The Blackhawks gave up 2 runs in the top of the first of off an RBI double and a sacrifice ground out form the Bulldogs. Adrian would answer back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Adrian first got on the board when Vandenberg worked a walk with bases loaded, shortly after which Hamilton would pop up and score Fredlow on the sac fly.

The second inning was fairly quiet with both teams being held scoreless. Odessa would score off an Adrian error to go up 3-2. But the Blackhawks wouldn’t be outdone, as they would answer back with 2 run bomb by Bryler Ford to reclaim a 4-3 advantage.

In the 6th inning, the Bulldogs score on another error by Adrian, knotting the ballgame up at 4 each. The game would remain tied after the 7th inning, so we would head into extras!

The Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the 8th, forcing the Blackhawks to score at least one to continue playing, 2 to win. And the Blackhawks answered the call, scoring 2 runs to walk off the game in the 8th and claim a 6-5 win in the opening game of the Classic!

Bryler and Brock Ford both went 2 of 3 in the contest, with Bryler recording 2 RBIs on his Homerun shot. Kobe Enos was the other Blackhawk to record a hit for Adrian.

The Blackhawks struck out a total of 12 Bulldogs in the game, 9 at the hands of Brock who went in 5 innings, and then Cole Hamilton came in and struck out 3.

Adrian would end up going 1-2 in the classic, falling to Knob Knoster (2-3) and Clinton (3-11).

Blackhawks Tally 34 Runs in 2 Contests

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks Softball team began their week battling the Versailles Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 6 run lead as they played small ball in the top of the first, getting 3 RBI singles before collecting an RBI Double and then an sacrifice grounder that went down as an RBI as well.

The Blackhawks were able to get some of that back in the bottom of the first as they scored 3 runs of their own off of a pair of RBI Singles of their own (Newkirk & Nelson) and a sacrifice ground out of their own as well (Talley).

Over the next 2 innings, the Blackhawks defense stymied the Tigers, holding them to 0. With the defensive intensity ramped up in the 2nd and 3rd, the Blackhawks bats were able to plate 3 runs in each the 2nd and 3rd, to claim a 9-6 upper hand heading into the 4th.

After being held silent in two straight innings, Versailles answered back in a big way, having theirselves yet another 6 run inning in the top of 4, while Adrian record anther 3 runs in the bottom of 4.

The game would continue to go back and forth, and heading into the 7th and final the Lady Blackhawks found themselves trailing 14-12. Adrian would rally to score the needed 3 runs to claim a 15-14 victory.

Berkleigh Pierce, Harlee Newkirk and Lizzie Clifton each recored an inside the park homer in the contest. There was a plethora of Blackhawks that recorded multiple hits in the game as Adrian recorded a totally of 22 hits in the matchup.

Adrian’s offensive explosion continued as they travelled to Midway on Thursday. Adrian struck first as they lead 2-1 after the first. Midway did rally in the 3rd, scoring 4 to take a 5-3 advantage. But the Lady Blackhawks bats got hot once again as they scored 16 runs in the final 3 innings to claim a 19-6 victory.

Adrian racked up 23 hits in the contest, led by Chloe Nelson who went a perfect 4 of 4 from the dish, while recording 2 RBIs. Mizell and Clifton each recorded 4 RBIs in the contest.

Lady Bears Perfect 3 of 3 on Week, Including Huge Win Over Lincoln

By Cody Morris, Tailgate TV

The Lady Bears opened their week on Monday (4.14) against a very strong Lincoln Lady Cardinals team. The Lady Cardinals came into the game with an impressive record of 13-1, fresh off of winning the Kaysinger Conference Tournament. The Cards came into the ball game averaging right around 15 runs per game. However, the Lady Bears were fearless and unphased as they came out and hung 3 runs on the Cardinals in the bottom of the first, after holding Lincoln scoreless in their half of inning. Butler’s scoring was started by a well placed RBI double off the bat of Trudell, who is quickly turning into an offensive weapon for the Lady Bears. Trudell’s double was followed by an RBI Triple by the power hitting Hudson. Blaire Miller, who was recently moved up in the line-up, would ground out, but collect an RBI in the process while Hudson crossed home plate.

The Bears were able to hold the Lady Cards scoreless yet again in the 2nd as well, however Lincoln would score 5 runs between the 3rd and 5th, taking a 5-3 lead.

The Bears never once seemed bothered, even playing from behind, as they rallied in the 6th to score another 3 runs and reclaim the lead. It was Hudson who began the scoring in the 6th, as she batted in Dubray with a double.

The Bears handed the Lady Cardinals just their second loss of the season with a 6-5 victory. The Bears were full of power on the night as they had 4 extra base hits. Hudson went 2 of 3 with a double, a triple and 2 RBIs. Dubray (triple) and Trudell (double) both went 1 of 3.

Kylee Dubray was a big reason why the Lady Bears were slow down the high octane offense of the Lady Cardinals, as she struck out 11, giving up just 1 earned run in 7 innings.

The Lady Bears would go on to run rule La Monte in 5 innings with a final of 19-2. Butler scored 10 runs in the 3rd inning alone in that contest. The Bears racked up 13 hits in that game, including multiple hits by Cook, Trudell, Dubray, Hudson and Davis. Kylee Dubray and Brooke Miller each recorded inside the park home runs in the matchup as well. Hudson and Dubray combined to strike out 8.

To close out their week, the Lady Bears trekked to Versailles to take on the Lady Tigers. The Bears again took an early 6-2 advantage after the first couple of innings. The Bears took a 9-3 lead into the final inning, where Versailles tried to rally back and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th. At the end of the night, the Bears were just too much for the Tigers and they would leave town with a 9-7 win, their 3rd win of the week.

In the Versailles game, Hudson went 3 of 4, while Cook, Trudell and Davis each recored 2 hits. Eldred and Cook both grabbed themselves extra base hits in the match.

From the circle, Dubray struck out 6 in 7 innings.

The Bears seem to really be playing their best ball right now, they are 9-6 on the season and in the month of April they have went 6-3.
