Cleveland man seriously injured when vehicle strikes tree

Around 3:30 yesterday afternoon, a Cleveland Mo. man was seriously injured when his vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree on Prospect avenue near east 231st street. The highway patrol says the vehicle skidded before leaving the left side of the roadway resulting in the accident.

The man was transported to to Overland Park Regional medical center for treatment. The 2024 Kawasaki ATV was a total loss.

The Missouri Highway Patrol no longer provides names of accident victims in publicly available reports.

Defective taillight leads to arrest

On 11/18/25 at around 2:20 a.m., a deputy attempted to make a vehicle stop on a vehicle heading northbound on I-49 in rural Peculiar.

The vehicle had a defective taillight — and the driver began to accelerate as the deputy activated his emergency lights.
As the pursuit passed North Cass Parkway, the Belton Missouri Police Department successfully deployed tire deflation devices.
The pursuit continued near Red Bridge Road in Kansas City, when the vehicle became inoperable.
The driver complied with deputies and was arrested.
He’s been identified as 59-year-old Rodney Camp of Belton.
Camp has been charged with Driving While Revoked/Suspended (E Felony) and Aggravated Fleeing a Stop (D Felony).
He’s currently being held at the Cass County Jail with a $35,000 cash only bond.

Cooler temps ahead

As you knew it would, more "normal" temps for this time of year will return. They begin to trend closer for the second half of this week.

Big picture: Weekend looks dry and sunny.
Next chance for rain shows up Monday.

Bates County Community Steps Up for Operation Sock-It-To-Me

Once again, the Bates County Memorial Hospital (BCMH) Auxiliary has helped brighten the school year for local students through its annual Operation Sock-It-To-Me project. For the past two months, BCMH employees and community members donated new socks for students in grades K–12, and volunteers have now collected, sorted, and prepared them for distribution to area schools.

School counselors will ensure the socks reach the children who need them most, providing a small but meaningful boost to their comfort and confidence throughout the school year.

Special recognition goes to Lora Padley, who leads Operation Sock-It-To-Me each year. Coordinating collections, sorting donations, and organizing delivery takes dedication and energy, and Lora ensures the project runs smoothly from start to finish.

BCMH thanks the community and employees for their generosity. Through Operation Sock-It-To-Me, children in local schools will start the year with one less worry and one more pair of warm, comfortable socks.

The Appleton City Ministerial Alliance meets throughout the year providing community services and opportunities for the area churches to gather together for worship.  Additionally, the ACMA helps people through the region in a variety of ways.  In 2023 the ACMA founded the Tony Reynolds Memorial Scholarship, which is a $1000 scholarship awarded locally to an area student pursuing continuing education post-high school.  Some in the community have asked about the ability to make donations directly towards the scholarship fund that are not used in other ACMA endeavors.  At any time, you may make donations towards the ACMA and they encourage you to do so.  You may make donations at any of their community meetings, or feel free to contact one of the ministers serving in the ACMA for more information.

Volunteer drivers are needed ahead of the busy year-end season. New Growth Transit especially needs volunteers in the Appleton City and Montrose area to provide free rides for residents who aren’t able to drive themselves to medical appointments and other essential destinations. Drivers are reimbursed $0.70 per mile (not income), receive training and ongoing support, and choose when and where they’re willing to drive. Call 417-283-7991 or visit newgrowthtransit.org to learn more.

Funds are needed for the backpack program. Holy Trinity Church in AC houses this project, which is funded by you, the community.  They now are sending 35 packs of food home with school kids weekly. The cost is $950 per month and they are reaching out for help. Donations are accepted at the church and may be made to: TUMC, with memo: Backpack. Thank You.

The Ellett Memorial Hospital Foundation was established in 2000 by a local couple to benefit and carry out the purposes of Ellett Memorial Hospital.  The Foundation has played a major role in the Hospital’s recent renovation/expansion project.  The Foundation is a 501c3 organization and plays an important role in ensuring the future of the Hospital by providing an avenue for individuals, groups and corporations to lend their financial support through tax-deductible contributions. The Ellett Memorial Hospital Foundation would like to extend an invitation to the community to assist with this project.  They would like to welcome all current and past members of the community and service area to make a donation to the Ellett Memorial Hospital Foundation. Donations can be restricted or non-restricted for use as the donor identifies.  Recognition will be given for all contributions.  For further information, contact Julee Snyder, Ellett Memorial Hospital, 660-476-211.

Lily's house receives very special donation

Lily's House
received a huge blessing and I wanted to pass it on to you.
Back story - if you live in Adrian you often see our staff and residents out pushing strollers and getting some exercise. When they see one of our senior saints around town needing a hand they often pitch in.
Fast forward to yesterday- I received a call from Gary Dizney saying someone wanted to give Lily’s House something. I figured it was some clothes for the Thrift Store so I told him have her go to the store. Gary politely informed me she really wanted to talk with Sara and myself. So to the store we headed.
When we arrived we were greeted with a smile and a story. Our ladies had often stopped to help a sweet lady in town. It was the tight thing to do. She had passed earlier in the year and she wanted to say thank you and support Lily’s House so she left a very nice “thank you” in her will. As we stood there and read the note and opened the check we all cried.
I was reminded of the verse in Galatians 6:9 - “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”.
In the midst of the challenges of our world it is so easy to be tempted to embrace a doom and gloom mindset. May this encourage you to continue to be a blessing.
